    Hello!

I've been lurking for a little while. I got emails stating I didn't get referred for Portland, Denver, and Atlanta in July 2017. Got a call to interview this month. I'll update if I hear anything. Supposedly you might get the news mid-November for the February 2018 class.

I was in the same boat. I applied in Saint Louis for every location back in May. Received 3-4 non-referral emails over the summer before being called for an interview in Denver. A couple more months later I got a packet for Portland, OR.

Either I'm being considered somewhere else or they're getting my info together in case they have empty slots? I read on federal soup there's a back log on background investigations so that could have something to do with it. Otherwise, I'm clueless. Congrats to anybody that got an interview!

Was there a limit on how many places you could apply to? I got a call from HR in July asking why I put down more than 3 locations and why I attached a cover letter. I was very confused / embarrassed about the call. I thought I completely goofed.

Andrew - Do you know the locations you got non -referrals to?

I remember selecting all 25 locations listed on the announcement. The 3 locations I got non-referrals from were Spokane, Denver (were I later interviewed), and Portland (were I was tentatively selected to go).

Furthermore, all 3 non-referrals indicated that I was non-select for GS-7 even with 5pt Vet, BS/MS with SSA and "no comment" indicated for GS-9. However, my packet later said GS-9 in Portland, OR.

Edit: I moved my reply up.

Contacted by a Baltimore area ATF investigator (I lived and worked in 3 states) because nobody I listed on my E-QIP worked at the hotel anymore. I reached out some former coworkers and got him the names and numbers of more than 2 . Looks like things are rolling. I'm in for the Miami vacancy.

Mine will likely be longer. Canadian demon ex, 3 states (well VA was military so whatever), 4 employers in MD, 7 in FL (well 1 from MD and 3 from FL are same company). Guys have their work cut out for them. I want to apologize to each investigator.

Just finished my sit down with the ATF Investigator. Took about two hours. I feel it went well. Now the real waiting begins. I was told this part takes the longest.

I asked how long or the next step and he had told me he doesn't know.

Hello everyone. I just saw this thread and thought I'd chime in. I applied to this vacancy (Anchorage, Portland, Spokane). I didn't see any movement for a few months, so I archived it in USAJobs (it still says "received") and forgot about it. Two weeks ago, I got a phone call from my local office (Baltimore) to come in for an interview and I completed the math test/essay/panel last week. There has been no other communication, so I don't really know what to think. It seems par for the course though. Anyway, i appreciate being able to read other applicants' experiences.

Hey there. I was in the same boat. I applied in May and throughout June I received 3 non-referral emails (Spokane, Denver, and Portland). Out of the blue in mid-July, I got a call for an interview at my local office (Denver) for the next day. Completed the Math/Essay/Panel Interview with no issues and was told to expect to hear something in January. In Mid-September I received a letter and applicant packet for Portland, OR. Just last week I met with my Background Investigator who also interviewed my neighbor and a local friend. Now I am playing the waiting game yet again.

My best advice is to be patient and take it all in stride.

Good advice. Honestly, I'll probably forget about it again until I hear something.

Got contacted for my sit down interview with my ATF BG investigator. It will be Monday at the Miami field office. I work nights so I haggled with my investigator but he wanted me to print my eqip, bring my passport and any updated phones and addresses. He also saidit was rushed as priority and due Thursday. I dunno why the big rush but happy for the progress.

I don't know what the rush is either. I am happy for it because at least I know there is some progress. My BG investigator was out friday night and today interviewing former neighbors and work references.

From what I heard they are in a rush now because of the whole Buttstock controversy from the incident in Vegas. How true that is I do not know. The sooner the better in my opinion. Good luck!

Had my sit-down today with my BG investigator at the Miami Field Office. Nice fellow. Took almost 2 hours and went over E-QIP questions as well as his own questions off a set list. He gave me some HW (finding some names, locations) and said he would be contacting me back and forth all week as it was due Friday.

Everything was submitted yesterday by my investigator. He said it was due by midnight. Throughout the week anything that needed to be addressed or clarified he allowed me an opportunity to do so.

As he was typing his report he was nice enough to allow me a final say on issues he had found and a chance to providing mitigating information.

Now just hurry up and wait.

Does anybody know if they'll send to training with interim clearances or is this going to a months-long wait?

        • #55
I think everyone that is going thru the background will get a chance to go the academy. Also AndrewRink there was a question that you can mark whether or not you wanted to get an interim clearance and you did not pass you would be terminated.

I don't want to say that I'm getting restless but I am super restless. Any word on when anyone should receive tentative class dates?

ATF HR had told me that a candidate should receive an offer/nonselected notice 6-8 weeks prior to the start of the next class.

I threw my hat into the DEA DI position just in case this doesn't pan out. Interviewed today at the Miami field office. A recent grad announcement was up but with them it's a bonafide mobility agreement.

Nothing here. My investigator told me to sit tight and wait. We should hear something this month I think.

Just received a phone call from HR asking if I was still interested in the position. The location is undesirable so I decided to decline. Keep an eye out for a call from a DC area code.

Did you complete all the prerequisites? Interview, drug test, SF86?
