In a previous post a few years ago, I read that they were petitioning for take-home vehicles and the authority to carry firearms off duty. I was just wondering if anything has changed.

In my opinion they should be able to take home carry as much craziness that's going on these days. But DOD sucks when it comes to LEO.

There will never be take home vehicles because there are so few and no need. The ONLY exception is Canine. For off-duty carry, they are covered under LEOSA to carry their person weapon. The agency takes a more hands off approach as far as that policy goes. Basically if you get into something off duty, it's on you.

Does anyone know how long it will be before you get contacted by the NGA? I have already applied in both locations and received e-mails confirming that my applications were received, but I am curious to know how long I can expect to wait before I hear any other correspondence.

More than likely they're going through the preference eligible vets and status candidates

May I ask what your educational and work experience backgrounds are like? I applied for the Springfield, VA announcement and was turned down earlier today, thank you.

Keep your head up. Seems like they’re hiring a lot. Put in your app next opening.

I did not test or interview. I just put in the application and nothing more. As for the next app, who knows when that will be posted and in my situation, I can't wait.

I received notice today that I was invited to test for Arnold, but declined for Virginia. Completed online questionnaire — testing on Sept 26th in St Louis. Anyone else testing on that date?

I applied to the last announcement few months ago for the 2nd grade and I was turned down, but then I was contacted to reapply to the current opening for the grade below and then I got selected for the beginning process.

I know a few people who have been hired for this position, two were 57+ years old and retiring after 20+ year careers in local policing, the other was a current police officer in her early 40's. They all said they were told during the interview it is a static job, that they want people who don't mind standing at a gate checking ID's all day.

I've been gone from NGA for a few years but have buddies there still. I laughed when I heard the Chief (who came from the Zoo), has already left. Instead of promoting from within they'll probably hire from outside again (not like that's done much good).

Like most non-LE focused agencies that happen to have police (especially DoD)... the civilians with oversight, don't know how to run a police dept. They are scared of liability and letting the guys do their job. That said... if you don't mind being on post a lot and not doing much LE work, it's pretty decent pay and gets your foot in door with federal law enforcement.

From what I hear he wasn't liked by the officers at NGA. In fact many threatened to or did quit because of him. When they made that clear to him (which I wont go into details of what happened) he left the Agency.

Sad. He was very well liked by the zoo police. He was a cop's cop.
