42k starting in California? How do they expect anyone to live off that?

If your not a current CA Peace Officer then you can apply for the Special Agent Trainee position, where you will be sponsored to a POST certified basic police academy.

I see. I was going to apply but I see you have to take the exam before actually applying; and the announcement closes on the 30th. Meaning I would have to fly out to CA by the 30th and take it, correct?

I am curious about this as well... can anyone confirm that you have to take the test prior to applying?

Good luck with this gig. Working for Xavier Becerra and pushing the Democrats political agenda by being a member of the the Democrats “Brown Shirts” would be unbearable.

Yes, you have to take either the SA or SA Trainee exam, whichever one you are eligible for and once your on the list you can then apply to openings that are posted.

Are all newbies going to Firearms?

The majority of new hires are going to Firearms followed closely by Gambling Control and Bureau of Investigation. Medi-Cal is not accepting trainees at the moment, only laterals.

Do applicants get any say in where they go prior to getting hired? Like, is there a decent chance newbies (laterals) can avoid firearms?

Well I put an app in...see what happens
Not all men can be U.S. Marines that is why there is the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Pretty much it will depend on the region u apply too and the needs of the dept., Firearms is pretty much going to get the first choice most of the time because they need SAs. If u apply and say u want a specific bureau that may rub the hiring supervisor the wrong way and u may not even get selected. If your really interested I’d take whatever is available to get your foot in the door and u can always transfers after 2 years. The other bureaus besides Medi-Cal are fairly small and have limited spots. I think if u say u want to go to Medi-Cal instead of Firearms u may have a good chance of getting it, maybe?

Thanks for the info. I've just heard somethings about Firearms of which I'm not a huge fan. Not sure I could work there, even for two years, if those things are true, and I heard them from people who'd know. That's my main concern. The other bureaus seem worth it, though.

                        Thanks again!

So from what I've seen, it looks like if I have not already taken the written exam and been put on the eligibility list, it won't happen in time for me to apply to these vacancies?

                      Thanks
