Our final test for the year will be 10/13/17, deadline to register is 10/6/17. We will have more civil service test dates next year, but they have yet been scheduled. We currently have 14 openings and the next academy starts 11/15/17. We will most likely be having 2 academy classes next year, but no set dates at this time.

The above is our testing schedule for the rest of the year. Our next academy will start 11/15/17. Our hiring process is not easy and we do not take everyone who applies. If you are looking for an agency that hires everyone who applies, that is not us. If you are looking for an agency that puts their applicants through a rigorous screening process, then give us a shot. We hire approximately 7%-9% of those who apply. We will have more test dates next year, we are just waiting on human resources to set the dates. If anyone is interested, take a look at our recruiting site, www.iwanttobeacop.net.
Do you know which academy Mesquite uses, and if there are self sponsored options? I have 40 credits from a previous academy in Mt Pleasant (cert is expired) and 20 credits from ITT Tech, which I don't think would count, otherwise I would apply.
    Thanks!

Mesquite PD will be administering an off-site civil service exam on May 20, 2017 at the City Civic Center in Henderson, TX (1500 Lake Forest Pkwy Henderson, TX 75652). The deadline to apply is 5/5/2017. After the exam applicants will go to the West Rusk High School football stadium (10705 S. Main New London, TX) to complete the physical agility portion of the exam. Afterwards applicants will go back to the Civic Center for a preliminary interview with background investigators. This will limit the number of times applicants from the East Texas area will have to travel to Mesquite during the application process. If there are any questions, please ask.

Our retirement is through Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS), I am not sure if that system gives credit for federal time. I know it provides credit from other retirement systems in our state (Texas County and District, etc.). You might check the TMRS website to find out. I do know we had hired a Border Patrol Agent previously, but I can not recall if his time counted towards retirement (he has since passed away or I would ask). However, TMRS is financially sound, which is a plus.

Nice area to work and live. Do you give any credit towards retirement calculations for Federal time?
