Hey guys, just looking for some insight here. I was a student intern with my local USSS field office a few years ago and am still good friends with a few Special Agents. Anyway, I applied last year and made it all the way to the polygraph and supposedly that is what failed me, though I was never really told what did fail me. Got the BQA email, and now I applied again to this announcement because one of the Special Agents strongly encouraged that I try again.
Is it possible to get hired after the second time around? Is it frowned upon to apply again after failing the poly (what I'm assuming I failed)? I was told by a Special Agent that failing the poly does not disqualify you for life anymore, only a year. Thanks guys!

You should be able to request why you DQ'd. That might provide more insight. Most agencies encourage reapplying and don't frown on it. I applied back in 2013 and withdrew for personal reasons. Now I'm back in the application and no one has batted an eye or asked why I'm going through again. Unless there is a time limit for something like a year for poly or a complete DQ for something with medical, then there shouldn't be any issue. If there was a legal issue within your poly or BI, I would imagine they would have addressed it with you already.

This may just be the standing orders for my midwest FO, but I highly doubt it, given that we don't get a lot of Presidential traffic here.

It doesn't fully make sense that it would be that way everywhere all year -- they need people badly, they're continuing to have classes, and they just had another vacancy announcement. Surely at least some applicants will keep getting processed, even if it is at a glacially slow pace.
