        • I was gonna go with those saltine crackers that really get your mouth dry and only have one bottle of water test out their problem solving skills.

          • On a serious note I pose a question to the group. Hypothetically a person I know who is in this process as well has come to a cross roads. This person works for a local department and may have a chance to go to the atf task force in the next couple weeks, but the department has reservations because this candidate is finishing up the secret service process and they don't want to waste time and money placing them on the task force if he or she could be leaving in 6 months. This person doesn't want to back out of the process, but also doesn't want to pass up the task force position if the secret service doesn't pan out. Any thoughts

Tough decision! Two thoughts initially: Is there any chance he or she could defer the task force opportunity for a few months or so to see if the USSS SA option pans out? (I'm assuming when you say they are "finishing up" their application they're at least post-polygraph, probably more, into the process? Are they just waiting for the call or is there more to finish up?)

If the answer above is no (or even if it's yes but the answer still doesn't become clear in time), then it sounds as if he or she would just have to make a judgment call based on what they want the most, and taking into account all the factors and information about both jobs themselves/certainty of said job/future career paths and opportunities/lifestyle each affords, etc. I don't envy them that decision.

This person finishes their home interview this week and they are not going to hold the atf spot it's take it now or it goes to another person.

General advice is take the sure thing that's in front of you. But general advice doesn't take into account that person's preferences so... The USSS seems much more a sure thing (knowing nothing is a sure thing) than the task force.

I kinda have the same dilemma. I work as a Fed for the USBP and have been passed up on TDY(temp assignment) because I have completed the process for the USSS SA position. A lot of my supervisors have told me that they would rather give it to an agent who is staying with the dept rather than someone who could possibly be leaving soon. My only response to that question is: I am still an Agent and have no clue if I will get selected by the Hiring Panel. The biggest mistake for me was people finding out I had finished the process. Here I am going on 2 1/2 months of waiting for "The Call".
Your buddy will have to make a tough decision. My opinion is to push for the TFO spot to help his career. Nobody knows if and when the hiring panel will select you for a SA position.

Trust me, Everyday that passes leads me to believe that I might not get selected. I am hoping that my years of Federal experience with narcotics, fraudulent cases, canine, intelligence, bachelors and some grad hours will help me. We had an agent that had 2 years BP experience with a B.S and Masters that got selected back in Sept.

Remain hopeful that all on the forum will get a call!!!

                    • Thanks for the advice fellas. I think this persons fear is that they will pass up the atf spot and sit in limbo for a long time and potentially get passed up for the secret service and have missed out on the chance to work with the atf and work there way into a full time spot down the road. Glad I could bounce this question off you guys thanks.

                      • Alright, has anyone here been told that they might have to do a follow up or have actually completed a follow up to their medical portion due to the fact that one of the tests completed did not display normal/baseline results due to your intense athletic training. None of the results indicate negative/bad signs, just the mere fact that it is different from the average/baseline reading. (i.e. EKG) 👀

                        • Federal Health unit will forward your EKG results to a cardiologist (I believe, or radiologist... Some specialist for sure) for a second opinion. If they signed off saying your results are a variation rather indicating abnormal health rhythm then you should be fine. The unit will forward to USSS medical board for review and approval- the USSS docs will have a final say, not the Federal Health unit. They may request follow up. In my case, they moved me right along.

My non-medical school educated understanding is:Unless you've had a heart attack or arrhythmia of some sort, your EKG results are probably indicative of what you were born with. Not your training. I told the doc that I did a half ironman triathlon, marathon, etc. and she shrugged it off saying it was probably just how I was born unless I had some heart attack.

Thanks for that insight. I'll look forward to that happening because there's no medical history regarding any of that in my past. A follow-up isn't an issue either, just rather keep the boat sailing right along.

                              • Just finished with my home interview. The SA didn't know of class dates or when the hiring panel meets but he did say they want to try to get a class in every month but that it will most likely be every other month.

In other news, the investigator said that the information he got on me had me as a UD applicant (I am in both processes but both are supposed to be at the same stage now). He said there's a chance DC processes my UD side first and my SA side will still be sitting there because technically its at the security interview stage (although I have already done that for UD and it carries over). He said to call DC and they said they can see I am in both processes but she couldn't tell me where I was in the SA part. She said not to worry because it all counts and it will be processed. If I had to guess, I'm going to get a UD offer first, and have to make a tough decision, because my packet is going to DC Monday.
