Honestly, I hope everyone makes it that really wants it. There are probably a lot of applicants out there that have high-speed professional degrees and 4.0 GPAs that make me look like a mental midget. I also don't look down on the people who didn't join the military. It isn't for everybody, especially the combat arms branches...just like college isn't for a lot of career enlisted men. You go with what you bring to the table, and hope for the best.

I've suffered plenty of failure (FBI SA and DSS SA to name a few) for jobs which I "thought" I was qualified for. FBI didn't even give me a shot after Phase I, and DSS was looking for something other than just my combat and military intelligence experience. No harm in applying, and the only time you have 0% chance of getting hired is when you don't try.
I think im kind of a brainiac myself to a point. I only joined the military because I couldnt afford to attend college. Growing up in the projects didnt give me many options. Either it was a grocery store gig, or the military and try to be someone. Once I got in, I liked it so I reenlisted, reenlisted, and reenlisted again. Once out, I attended college and acquired the Summa cum laude honors in undergrad, and currently holding down a 4.0 in Grad with 6 classes left.

You joined the Army, and managed to get stationed at Campbell (I know some Rakkasans), so you can't be all that smart!

The third agent came in right out of college no LE no military. I have been in LE for 6 years. I have been in active shooter situations. I was never asked at any point if I could drop the hammer, if I have dropped the hammer, or anything else along those lines. I completely agree with whomever made the comments a few posts ago regarding the fact the USSS doesn't want people to be to trigger happy or shooting at threats in a crowd. I also agree with the poster who differentiated between LE shoots and military shoots. In LE we have to account for every bullet and can't really spray and pray. Overwhelming firepower is not as suitable to a LE environment asit is to the military. I'm not trying to disparage the military, but they are two different jobs. In the military you shoot to kill. In LE you use force (including deadly force) until a theat is neutralized.

Despite the feelings that are apprenly gettinghurt in this conversation, I hope we allg et the job and can dbat this over a few "pops" at FLETC. In the meantime keep working out, have a good holiday and eveyone stay safe.
Investigator, you all late...lol we done discussed this topic, had a few beers, and went to the strip club in midway, if im not mistaken, I think its exit 84 or something. The club is called TruPlayers, atleast that was the name of it last I was in FLETC. I will pick you up on the next trip up 95N

              • Merry Christmas everyone! For those of you getting ready to head to FLETC make sure you are running a minimum of 3 miles a day and at least one 6 mile run a week. Take care of your injuries, don't cheat yourselves on the pull ups because you will just be wasting your energy. PT is being stressed more than anything right now with USSS so do your pushups, sit-ups, and pull-ups correctly now so it's muscle memory that takes over during the test. FLETC will not get you in shape; you have to work out on your own. FLETC is not bad at all, especially if you are in the Taj without a roommate . Be a team player when you get down there with reports, ORT, and academics (study groups). Your reputation starts in FLETC and will stay with you for the rest of your career. Don’t be the know it all, be humble, don’t be the guy that says “When I was with… this is how we did it”. FLETC is where you make your friends for the duration of your career, hang out with everyone, have tough skin, take full advantage of the time in FLETC to become a team. I know a lot of this is redundant but it is important. If anyone has questions you can PM me but I won’t be on here every day. Good luck to everyone, my 2 year wait was worth it!

                  • Good post, pushing close to three months on the shelf. Hopefully, I’ll get some more patience for a Christmas present.

To everyone here: keep fit, stay patient, easy on seconds and hopefully we will get some movement for New Years. Merry Christmas to all

                      • I have a question regarding relocation. On the announcement I applied under, it stated there was no relocation assistance for SA and relocation assistance for UD to DC. I understand for SA that you're on your own to get to your first assignment. My question pertains to relocation assistance for future transfers.

Specifically, in Kessler's "In The President's Secret Service", there are a few comments of note. In the chapter "The Big Show", Kessler writes: "... asked for a transfer to Denver or Cheyene and offered to pay for the move himself. That would have saved the government about seventy-five thousand dollars in moving costs." (pg. 122) Further, he writes: "Approximately ten other agents were transferred to Denver... at a cost to the government of seventy-five to one hundred thousand dollars for each move." (pg. 122) Finally, Kessler writes: "...the Secret Service wound up paying out $240,000 for the transfer to cover Mullen's costs, including the decline in the value of his house in the Washington area." (pg. 123)

I have been unable to find any further information about this. I vividly remember the military moving process and I wonder if it is similar for Federal employees. Does anyone, specifically those with Federal employment, have any information about this?

Agents are required to pay for their first move. Any move after that is based on the USSS's needs and it will be covered by the agency.

Agents are required to pay for their first move. Any move after that is based on the USSS's needs and it will be covered by the agency.
That's great news, thank you for the info. Do you know of any cap? More importantly, what about the agency covering the loss of a home's value? That seems like a huge boon, especially with the slow real estate turn around.
