  • Im at week 7 after my panel waiting to hear if I passed or not. Do they send you a letter or is it an email stating if you passed or failed? I heard a couple people mention that when they did not pass the panel they were notified relatively soon after the panel. So I am hoping no news is good news.

How long have most of you been waiting for the call after the panel for the poly?

Mine was about 2 months. thats been about the avg between all my steps up to the poly. After the poly things moved quicker than before. You'll get the random phone call from an SA or UD officer to set up a time to do your poly.

      • Thanks for the info. I am gonna figure 8-10 weeks as I'm sure not much gets done the last couple weeks of December.

If I don't make it for the agent position I was going to apply for their technical position in cyber areas to get my foot in the door. I'm already 31 so would have to move quickly to stay under their age 37 restriction.

Wish I was 10 years younger, I would go into the military and get some good experience!

I'm in the same boat as you...going on week 8 after panel. From what I've been seeing it looks like things have slowed down during the holidays. So like you, I am hoping no news is good news The best thing I think we can do is just enjoy this time of the year and hope for good news to come. Best of luck to you...Keep pluggin along!!!

            • How much of a difference is the Panel from the Initial besides the scenario questions. My initial was very informal, just how informal will the panel be or will it be very formal

Whoa what you mean by using all your vacation time up, and only being able to carry over sick time? Are you saying that current feds will not be able to transfer over the leave they currently have on the books as annual leave?

So you saying I will have to burn my current leave before I leave my current federal position or lose it. If so this will be the first I have heard of this leaving one federal position to another

But can you carry over your AL from 2009 to 2010?

You can carry over your sick time but I though AL was use or lose for each calendar year.

I can be wrong, in fact according to my wife I am wrong all the time.
At the end of the calendar year you cannot carry over more than 240 hours of AL, so anything over 240 hours AL is considered use or lose. However, there is an exception in that you can carry over more than 240 if you had leave requests throughout the year denied.

Yea Jimdvs what you said is correct, you cant carry over more than 240hrs of leave. Up on Base had me nervous for a minute saying I couldnt carry the leave I have earned over with me to USSS. I was really going to reconsider joining the agency....lol. I had use or lose leave, but recently just took 2 weeks, so im good not, but im projected next year for another 186 hours use or lose, so I got to start scheduling me some leave

                      • As a current federal employee, I can assure you that AL does in fact carry over with a a cap at 240 hours. Anything over 240 hours is use or lose.

Some agencies allow you to donate your unused time to people who need it for medical reasons, such as a pregnancy or illness of a coworker. We receive mass emails notifying us of people who are in need of leave donations. I was actually suprised that the government does not have maturnity leave. I mean I am not planning on having a kid anytime soon, trust me. But I heard that the donating leave comes in handy in that situation, especially if you have generous family members in the government.

Sick leave has no cap and also can count toward retirement now (so I heard).

Yeah, I work for the Feds as a contractor. It is a ghost town around here after Thanksgiving due to use or lose. The 240 hours of A/L is correct. Sick leave is unlimited. We've got a few guys around here that can take terminal leave for over a year when they retire on sick leave alone.

That is actually illegal. The purpose of unlimited carry over of sick leave is because the government doesn't provide disability. Though, there has always been talk of allowing people to use accrued sick leave to retire early. At this point, it hasn't happened, nor do I see it happening any time soon.

Yes. That is correct. Their sick leave balance is added to their years of service. So if you do 20 years, have one year of sick leave, then you get credit for 21 years of service.
