Regarding the question about Law Enforcement Available Pay, SA's are authorized to work overtime up to a certain percentage. The overtime is not scheduled in advance, in theory it is not under your controll, it is based upon the demands of the situtation. That is why law enforcement officers are entitled to this as opposed to other federal professions because there are demands outside of their standard work day outside of their control. You will keep track of overtime worked during a given period of time and that is how it is determined what overtime you will be paid for. This does not vary based upon what part of the country you are in. Regarding the question about day care services, this is not done relevant to an agency. Some federal buildings have a day care service available and this is arrange directly between the employee and the day care service.

You are wrong my friend, and the other poster was correct. The overtime has to be scheduled a week ahead of time. The overtime you are referring to is the LEAP, which is the uncontrollable, which is typically 2 extra hours per day, or 10 hours per week. Anything more than 10 hours extra a week is considered overtime, but it has to be scheduled a week in advance,

            +1.

Also, for those waiting on the call, I was told by an SA yesterday that he thought the hiring board was going to be meeting the first week of December, so hopefully we'll be seeing some calls going out in a couple of weeks!! Hang in there!

            • Also, regarding the overtime...

There is another stipulation where anyone GL-13 and under can not make more in a given fiscal year than the assistant director of Homeland Security (not sure of the exact job title, so feel free to correct me), which is something like $169,000 p/y. This INCLUDES over time paid. The problem they ran into during the last election, though, is that guys who were at GL-7 and GL-9 were hitting that number only a few months into the year. When you hit that wall, what happens is that the money is held in escrow and paid to you in full in the next fiscal year. Kind of a weird way of doing things, and it sucks not getting that money when you earn it. But it is probably pretty sweet getting that huge check at the beginning of the next fiscal year.

              • Regardless of how overtime works, i think most of us will be happy just to get a job offer. I feel humbled just to make it to the hiring panel. Getting that call around christmas would be a nice way to end 2009.

That seems a bit excessive...is that info accurate?
I suppose since UD doesn't get LEAP, that could be the difference?

                    All speculation on my part.

With LEAP and Locality a GS7 should make 65-75Kish...my numbers could be off but not by much.

I just don't see an Agent making 90K additional in OT even during a campaign, if so that is pure blood money.

Once you hit the 11/13 level you are making some nice cash, I could see a 13 hitting that kind of pay with a ton of OT but not a 7/9. It doesn't really matter, if a 7/9 made that $ good for them.
                      Yeah, doesn't seem real plausible.

Just a question about the way your worded your post. Is it possible to make it through the hiring process and not get an offer??? I'm somewhere in between my poly and medical, with the background and HI somewhere down the road. A week after Thanksgiving it will be a month after my poly, I'll give them a call and see where I stand.

I'd say it is very possible. Just because you make it through all the "checkmarks" doesn't mean you will be hired.

                          • It seems like some applicants make it through all the stages and then sit "on the shelf" at HQ until a slot opens up for a FLETC class. That is when they finally get The Call which is, in my understanding, "the offer" because it's basically when you finally have the job (pending making it through training). i.e., "Here's the office(s) you can select for your first phase, and here's your report date and your date for FLETC".

As for my wording, my intent was that I'll be appreciative to get the Panel interview, let alone make it through the whole process.

This is just my opinion, but I think if they saw something that made you unfit or unqualified for the job then they would send you the BQA letter after that step. It doesn't seem like they would pass you each step and then say thanks, but no thanks. I've been grilling people I know (1 former SA, 1 newby SA, and 2 seasoned SAs) about this final wait. They all say the same thing. They say it's pretty much a done deal now, you just have to wait to get the call. They have spent a lot of money on you to this point, and its more beneficial to keep you around. Of course all this is assumming your BI didn't come up with something bad that would DQ you. It makes me get excited to hear them talk like that, but I try to remain humble until someone gives me an official offer. Again, just my opinion
