    • Just got home from taking the TEA. I think I did well on two of the three sections. The math kicked my *** and I thought I studied enough. They said if you fail the TEA you can reapply to the vacancy in 6 months. Hopefully I won't have to.

So in order to get a 70% on the eaxm, which consists of (20+25+30) = 75 questions, you can only get 22.5 wrong...so 22 wrong answers...

I hope I passed. I feel great about the other two sections. I hope everyone elses process is coming along.

      • I have taken and passed the TEA, had my initial, received the conditional offer, and then got the SF-86 and was told(via email) that I had been referred for the Poly and Panel.
Anyone have any idea how long until they schedule the Panel? I'm applying in the Northeast so I'm sure things are a little slower here.

Also if anyone knows where they are offering as to locations for the job PM me and let me know. I'm currently a FAM and will not just take another position anywhere in the country...

The way it was explained to me...when you finish all the steps, HQ will offer you three choices, you can take it or leave it.

          • I've seen people offered as few as two choices and as many as six. It appears that they try to offer you a choice of (a) big office(s) in a major metro area and (a) smaller office(s) in your geographic region, giving you the choice between "seeing the world" and staying within reasonable travel distance of family. That is just my opinion from what I've seen in the last couple months posted in this thread and discussed via PM.

I think it just depends on the timing of your offer letter and what offices have slots available. The big offices (NY, LA, Newark, Miami, Chicago, etc) almost always have openings and one or more seem to be in everyone's offer letter, and sometimes there are some smaller ones in your region that appear as well.

For those without a strong attachment to their current locale I would think the hardest part of the decision (if given such a choice) would be not knowing how future office moves in their career are determined. i.e., after your Protection term, are you able to put in a wishlist of offices you'd like to go to next, or are you given a shortlist like at the initial offer, or are you just assigned by the needs of the Service?

            • A few posts back, in october, someone mentioned that the TEA is curved? Is this true? I would find that extremely odd if true.

Does it really matter if it is curved or not? If they say you passed, you passed, if its curved or not. If they say you failed, you failed, no matter if its curved or not. How are they to curve the exam. To curve an exam, you have to take the exam with every other applicant. What if you took the exam alone? How are they to curve that?

It could easily be curved. And yes, curving could make a big difference in the # of pass/fails, versus just grading the test straight-up. If someone took it alone, I'm sure they have a process/solution for that also...combine it with a different sample.

I agree that they probably grade on a curve, so just because someone passes doesn't mean that they actually got 70% of the answers correct.

In the end it doesn't matter.....what they tell you is what sticks.

I dont think it is curved, I just think certain parts of the test weigh more than others. I think the investigative part, followed by reasoning, then math. I think if you fail the investigative part, you automatically fail the exam, which is only obvious considering its a criminal investigative position.

                    • I was just inquiring about the comment made several pages ago. I was looking over the forum and saw something about a curve. Honestly I don't think it should be curved. But maybe they curve it so that they can test harder questions and what not on any given test group. Not everyone takes the same test, maybe some tests (although simiular in nature) are designed to be harder than others. Who knows. Thanks for the follow up.

Yea some of the tests are easier than the others, and something else I noticed when taking the exam, they were pre assigned. It was three of us taking the exam together, and the woman administering the exam was like ..... you got test 546 ..... you got test 527 and ...... you got test 538. I dont know how they figure who take what test, but either way, oh well.
