  • As stated in my message above I had my polygraph yesterday. I had never been through a polygraph before so I had no idea what to expect. I will say this though, it wasn't as bad as I had envisioned in my head. Having said that, it was still quite intimidating. She told me that she thinks I'm in an acceptable range but the decision is up to HQ, so it is back to the waiting room I go.

I concur. I studied for about 2 weeks with the practice questions, and it paid off.

I applied to the announcement that closed on July 3, and I got my TEA invite on July 27.

I applied on the 9/09 opening and received the "did not meet basic requirements" email about 2 weeks ago.

CHAMBA suggested that I follow up on this - so I sent a letter to the USSS HR here in DC asking for clarification, because I did in fact meet the basic requirements as stated in the opening. I'm hoping to hear from them soon.

Reading the timelines in the update post...looks like anywhere from 1-4 months. I'll let you know if I get that far

                    • I would love to know the answer to that as well. I guess if you pass the BI, then your application is complete and can be pulled whenever the hiring panel meets. Which I think they meet at the beginning of each month, and the calls have been going out around the middle of each month. If your application is complete, then you have a shot at it each month until they decide to put you in the next available class.

                      • Just submitted my SF86 material yesterday and got scheduled for a panel interview Monday Nov 2. Apparently they had some slots to fill and I would have had to wait 3 weeks if I didn't take it. I figured it was better to get it over with rather than stress and try to over-prepare. This process is moving much faster than I expected. It makes me a bit nervous considering I have applied for other 1811 positions that I am slightly more interested in (not that I wouldn't gladly take a USSS position) that are not moving nearly as quickly. Has anyone else had this issue? Possibly getting a job offer from somewhere but wanting to hold out for a different 1811 slot??

The process went considerably faster for me once I had been informed that I had passed the polygraph. Every step went a little faster than what they had told me to expect. (not really a bad thing). I do believe that timing is key and luck was a little on my side, but it appears that they are trying to speed things up a bit. I was told to expect 2-4 months to recieve "the call", and it took almost a month exactly. I was pleasantly surprised, but I was sort of hoping for a little more time to get myself into better shape. Fortunately, there will have been about 6 weeks between me receiving the call and actually reporting for training in fletc. That gives me a considerable amount of time to continue to train.

Its nothing you can prepare for really, just be yourself, and don't read into the questions too much.

+1 on this. Sit and think about your life history and situations you have been in so that you can give real life experience as answers to their questions. That was the only preparation I had and it served me well.
