    • Anyone care to share what their wait time from the security interview to the polygraph was? Agent said they don’t have a polygrapher in the office so they’ll either fly one in or I’ll travel somewhere else.

For me it was two months. I was in the same situation, where there was no polygraph specialist in my nearest office. I had medical between the SI and poly as well but they were scheduled independent from each other so I don't think that made a difference in the wait.

    • I had my security interview on 10/13/2020 and my polygraph isn't until January 7 due to the COVID-19 backlog and they have to fly someone in.

Thats a long wait, but atleast you are scheduled. I had my security interview the same day but havent received a call to schedule the poly yet.

      • What happens after the SAEE? I just got invited and have it scheduled for 11/13. Are the results same day or next day like I’ve read?

Also, I was speaking with a recruiter and he mentioned possibly trying to get me on an expedited track if I pass my exam, but it would be on the east coast and I’m in Texas. What exactly is the expedited process he mentioned?

For the expedited process...I guess he probably means you'd be invited to an ELAC. You generally do a ton of steps at a one day event (SUPER interview, security interview, and sometimes the polygraph too I think?). Only downside is that I don't think they compensate you for travel. If they offered this to me, I personally would have paid to travel to an ELAC. Generally seems like it's worth it.

The results for the SAEE pop up on the screen as soon as you complete it. So there's no waiting.

      • Poly scheduled for about 1.5 months from now.

Nope, I just did my security interview last week. I assume I’ll do the med and drug test while waiting on the poly.

My FO is very small. 1-1.5 month wait for poly seems about normal right now.

Virtual Security Interview was simple just time consuming. The agent went over all the forms and watched me sign. Then went over my entire Eqip for last chance corrections. Then i scanned and sent the forms to him. Now I’m waiting for the next step. Still had to wear a suit in my house though

      • Hello All,

        9/4/20: Applied
10/7/20: Best qualified applicant email received
        10/26/20: SAEE - pending

Was very surprised to get the best qualified email as I have zero LE experience however got the Bachelors in CJ.

Got my written exam scheduled for Monday with Pearson. This is my first LE test I have taken at any level. With Pearson testing centers, dressing in a suit/tie I would imagine is not required or needed? I searched through tons of pages and couldn't find an answer.

Wear something comfortable no need for a suit or tie. Testing center has no connection with the department

Law enforcement experience isn’t required by any means.

Wear whatever you want to the testing center. It’s not part of the interview. If it’s your first test like this, make sure you go over the practice exam a couple of times. The memorization part is a pain.

I second the comment above about the memorization portion The exam, in my opinion, was not overall difficult, but the memorization was challenging.

Thank you all for the info. Glad to hear about the comfortable clothing. I have been going over the exams a good amount, will work further on the memorization. Thanks again.

      • Hey all! Two questions that hopefully someone can answer.
        1. Is there a waiting period between getting a "better qualified applicants" email and when you can reapply? I asked the SA support email and they said if there is, it would be in the BQA email. ( There wasn't anything in the email about waiting) [yeah I know that basically answers my question, but I thought I read somewhere there was a waiting period]

        2. Is there a "blacklist" from ever being invited to take part in the hiring process again if you personally withdraw?

I applied last year, got all the way to background, (took the Poly, put in "ajudicative review" for months without an update) ,before I had to withdraw for personal reasons. I tried applying again 8 months later, got the BQA email. Applied again 4 months after that and got the BQA email again. I've had no negative life changes, filled out applications exactly the same, so not sure how I'm no longer competitive, unless the applicant pool did get that much more competitive (which I suppose is possible).

I would totally understand being blacklisted since I withdrew so far along but I just wish I'd get official notice of it. I technically never even got confirmation of my withdrawal from the process.

I'll say this; I was qualified for the GS9 on education and they referred me as a GS7. I'm gonna speculate and say they have a pretty competitive applicant pool and at the same time, a large applicant pool. Also take into account the situation with FLETC seats and how COVID threw a wrench in this whole process. It's tough getting two BQA letters, and while part of me says you should see the writing on the wall and move on, the other part says to keep applying until you make it because what do you have to lose? Also, other agencies are hiring. FBI is in a hiring surge. DEA has an open announcement, AF OSI has an open announcement, I spoke with an ATF recruiter and they might doing a hiring event "sometime in November." Just shotgun the applications and go with what sticks. All these I mentioned are 1811 positions too. Other Fed LEO agencies are also hiring for non-special agent jobs.

      • Scheduled medical for next week! For anyone that has already done this step, what should I wear?

Glancing over the paperwork it seems like there will be a stress electrocardiogram. This leads me to assume fitness attire?

        Thank you!

Haven’t done a medical exam for this agency yet, I just passed my SAEE yesterday. But have done them for some other agencies and the eco is done with you just laying in a chair and them hooking everything up. Doesn’t have to be fitness attire, but definitely something comfortable. But, a second opinion from someone who has done one for this agency wouldn’t hurt just to confirm, every agency is different.

Other agencies didn’t specify so I went with athletic attire which seemed appropriate.

That being said, in my USSS medical email, it specifically stated business attire so I went with that. Made the process a lot more annoying since you have to undress for the EKG but it’s what the email said.

Less than a week to get a poly date scheduled. Looks like they're scheduling polys about 1-2 months out (1.5 month for me). No idea on medical...it looks like people are doing it while they wait for the poly.

Same for me, I had my poly scheduled within a week and then got the medical exam email about a week after that. My poly was scheduled about 2 months out.

      • Well just got an email saying that my application for both UD and SA are no longer being considered. I got through almost the whole thing so I have no idea where it went wrong. Can I reapply right away? I completed: - computer test - SUPER - Security Interview - Polygraph - Medical - Drug Test - Home Visit And then got the email.

That's insane. I thought the entire purpose of the home visit is that you "got" the job? I assume it had to be something in your background investigation. But who knows, it kind of seems like they have monkeys throwing darts at names at "HQ". Not exactly inspiring a lot of confidence.

I'm sorry to hear that man. Same thing happened to me with the FBI. Got all the way through their process, 15 months, just to be told I was out. Was told I didn't fail the background, just that I was "unsuitable".

Best advice I can give, keep applying to 1811 jobs if you really want it. You can try doing a FOIA for your application, but I doubt it will show anything. I did one for my FBI file and they "whited out/ redacted" anything of value

      • Passed my poly last week and my background started yesterday. I have the home visit scheduled now too. It's moving faster than I had anticipated but no complaints here!

Were you specifically told that the background investigation started?

My poly was on Monday. Today I received an e-mail asking if there have been any changes in my residence, education, work, etc.

Is that what happened to you?

      • Hello, I'm new here, but I was wondering if I can get some insight from anyone. I'm currently in the military and I'm in the process on getting out (Dec 2019). I applied for the UD position back in November of 2019. The last part of the process I did was the Poly-graph. Since then I've been emailing and calling them about my status and they have been saying the same thing, "you're application is in the adjudication review." Last week I went on USAJOBS and my referred status changed to review, so I don't know if that means anything or if USAJOBS is not accurate. Can somebody shed some light on this, if they have experienced the same thing or have any idea, I would appreciate it.

Adjudicative process.... Ugh. They found something they didn't like in the application or something that needs extra "looking into". My advice is, since you are a veteran, apply again. I have been in your shoes, my adjudicative process took one year to be completed, but in the mean time I applied again and my application is rolling.

K-lin, thanks for the advice. But your saying Adjudication could possibly be a good or bad thing? Also, you said your process took a year, what was the results after that one year? If it was not good, why would they process you the second time around?

I'm also thinking because I'm currently active duty, I don't become a veteran yet till December, so I'm just waiting. I currently have other jobs lined up but I'm really hoping to land this one. Also, every time I call they say "Adjudication review," and to be looking out for an email from the secret service. Again, thanks for the advice.

      • I had my polygraph a week ago, it didn't go great but my polygrapher told me at the end that it was a very close pass. I was nervous in the beginning and didn't realize what it was doing to the charts; he said it looked like someone trying to deceive him like he'd never seen, so much so it even showed me hiding stuff in the section on classified information (I'm right out of college and have never touched classified information). He said he had no idea what they'd decide: it may have been a pass by his standards, but they might take one look at the beginning and think I was being deliberately subversive, meaning a BQA email or a failing poly result...

Anyway, I was wondering if people get a formal notification of whether they passed or failed? other than when the polygrapher tells you right after, because that didn't help in my case. And if so, how long after the poly you get that notification? I'd just like to not feel like I'm in limbo.

What your examiner told is so similar/identical to what I heard. I got a tentative pass from examiner but received BQA email 2 wks after poly. No info re poly result. However, don't be stressed as each case is different.

The only way to know if you passed is if they start your background. If not, then you will get a BQA.

I took the poly and they told me I failed. they said I was lying about drugs. Crazy, I'm currently in the military, never smoked pot my whole life or did any other illegal drugs. So, I thought I would be getting a disqualifying letter, but after waiting 2 weeks with no email, I emailed them and they said my application is in the Adjudication review. 11 months later (today) still in the adjudication review. Good luck and have faith.

Hey Dee_maminal, who have you been contacting to get information about your application? It has been over a month since my polygraph and I haven't heard anything. The examiner said I was inconclusive on a question. I reached out to the contact at my nearest field office and they said if the USSS Security Management Division hasn't authorized my background by now there must be an issue with my polygraph answers. The contact said this means my application has to be reviewed by OPM.
