Why don't most of the Fed LE job postings list an age requirement anymore. THere are very few that do now, looking at them today i always rememebered an age req, and that is the only thin greally missing fom the posting/announcments. Can anyone shine some light on this.

    Thanks

No age requirement means no special retirement....aka 6c coverage.

About (stressing about) the only series that has the special retirement is 1811 (Criminal Investigator) series and 0007 (BOP Corrections Officer) series. There are others....but those seem to be the main two out there.

Not sure if some of the other series's dropped the age stuff to get more people or not.

Have to also remember, that folks are living longer and for the most part living better, healthier lives. I know some late 30s early 40s retired military guys that could smoke 21 year old kids in Physical Fitness requirements.....

Not sure if that's the answer your looking for, but that's just my opinion on the subject.

I think in the future, some federal agencies will knock ages up. Border Patrol kicked their's up to 40 a couple of months ago......

Here is a brief list of federal LE job titles with an age restriction, due to their law enforcement retirement status (6c). Of course the list is not all encompassing, as there are smaller groups of positions that are 6c covered:

Special Agent (99% of all 1811 series regardless of agency)
Deputy U.S. Marshal (employed by USMS, not those who only carry special deputy commissions such as CSO's, OCDETF TF members, etc.)
      Federal Air Marshal
      Border Patrol Agent
CBP Aviation Enforcement Agent / Marine Enforcement Agent
CBP Enforcement Officer (not considered the same as a regular CBP Officer)
      ICE Immigration Enforcement Agent
      ICE Deportation Officer
      Postal Inspector
      U.S. Park Police Officer
      U.S. Capitol Police Officer
U.S. Secret Service Uniformed Division Officer
      U.S. Supreme Court Police Officer
      Library of Congress Police
      NPS Park Ranger (protection)
      USFS Law Enforcement Officer
      BLM Ranger (LE)
BoP (literally anything including cooks...with a few exceptions)

Added to that, there are some 0080 (Security Specialist) positions that are 6c covered. Commerce is doing this with the folks that are doing pure protection of there head honchos.

I have also seen some 0083 positions and some 1812 (Game Warden) positions that were 6c covered as well. Just kinda depends on what the Agency wants.....

Most of the folks doing protective details have prior LE or military experience in addition to a college degree. The 0080 and 1801 job series covers a broad range of security and investigative positions. This includes gun toting and unarmed positions such as wage investigators, physical security sepecialists, air marshals, and countless other positions. There is no one set of requirements, as each agency sets is own and they can change on each announcement if they are looking for specific KSA's (knowledge, skills, and abilities). If you're interested in a particular agency, do a google search with the agency name and job series. Right now you are young, but it is good to be looking ahead. The military can give give you some great training and experience which can be applied in the civilian world.
