    Just a thought...
Well if they're at the range too...
Nevermind, may be a port specific thing or just "use your own ammo" thing. Who knows? For an agency trying to get all serious about academy training and hiring practices to look more LE or para-military, they sure do some pitiful things.

    • I am thinking about purchasing an HK P2000 for practice now and later down the road instead of using the service weapon CBP will issue. Any current officers think its a good idea? Do you think CBP will frown on that? Any bad repercussion with this move?

I'd wait. You're going to get one issued to you for free and your port may not have the policy in place.

If you practice now you'll likely pick up "bad" habits that you're just going to have to unlearn once you hit Academy firearms classes.

As for later, I'd wait until then. By the time you come on board and get settled we well might be transitioning to a different firearm and/or the new Use of Force policy might finally clear all hurdles and be implemented agency-wide.

              Edit:

Beyond the point where I don't see you gaining much from it, I can't see where CBP would care. Especially if you have a state issued permit to buy/carry it under.

Thank you for your feedback, Barnaj and Merlin! I will wait on the practice and the weapon.

Also remember, you don't have jurisdiction on the streets as a CBPO. At FLETC you are told to be a good witness if the attack is not against you.
