I have a question about CASS that I am not sure of. If you are issued a NOPA can you still log into CASS, or are you locked out?

cbp test
I just got my notice of results and I scored an 82 on the test.. My geographical preference was south texas the rio grande valley. Does anyone know if the score is good enough to get called and how long is the average wait time for that area? I am currently a GS-7 with the Border Patrol and have been in for over a year now, will this help me in the hiring process. The only reason i am applying is because I dont like the city i was stationed at. Thanks for the help

First off, NOPA is a funny phrase because unless you resign or get fired from CBP and get an official form, you'll never see this paperwork. I myself got "a letter" asking for more information reguarding my 2 dui's and resignation from cbp in 2007. Nowhere on it was the letters N-O-P-A. I recently found out my response was forwarded for review on 5/11/09. So as you can see it can take a while. And yes, im still in CASS as BI "pending".
Second, assuming you enterd your info correctly, if your CASS says "your info was not found in our database", that means you've been dropped. I say this because i know for a fact that that is the case. Mind you the system might be acting up, but if you cant access CASS via phone or internet you are f'd.
Just a few tidbits of info that i wanted to pass along, and trust me, i know what im saying to be the facts.
Good luck all.

Good luck all.My BI has been pending status for 7+ months. I'm concerned I'm a possible candidate for one of those too. My background investigator wrapped things up 4 months ago, and I haven't been contacted by IA. I'm assuming that my BI is complete and just awaiting adjudication, or is the investigation still ongoing? There is one thing that I think might be holding things up. When my BI came to my National Guard Unit one of the administrative NCOs freely disclosed that we (my unit) were alerted to deploy in the fall of 2009. Big NO NO. I have to assume my BI included that information in his report. I know that CBP cannot discriminate on the basis of my military obligation, but who's to say that in light of that information my file may have been placed at the bottom of the stack. Why clear someone just so they can accept the job, complete training then deploy?
Then, you have to hire a replacement for that person, and when that person returns pay them a higher pay grade because he/she time overseas counts as time served. I have an eerie suspicion that if I don't get a NOPA I'll clear just before or after I deploy. I really got screwed by my Unit on this one.

Is this a bad omen? All I was waiting for was my BI to clear

He said that they made calls to 10 CBPO applicants yesterday and that there was no truth to these rumors. He said that he also heard on a website that someone sighted a UFO which does not necessarily mean is true...So he asked me not to pay any attention to such claims.
Finally he said that they were waiting for the Headquarter to release funding for the new fiscal year which he said would take another 1-2 weeks when the hiring process would start to pick up.
very happy about this...I hope he is right and we don't have to wait till October to see some action!

My question is, does the uniform vary or is there a place I can go to see what everyone is supposed to wear? I would think that an officer might wear different attire based on where they work or what their duty is? This guy looked all "tactical" for lack of a better word. Honestly I thought what he was wearing looked comfortable and hoped the port of miami would allow that - or am I to expect a stiff uniform that doesnt fit well?
So whats the final say on uniforms?
Class 1 is "formal wear". Used for funerals and other "dress up" applications.
Class 2 is "fancy". Used for dedicated passenger processing; mostly seen at airports.
Class 3 is "normal". Used pretty much everywhere outside of dedicated passenger processing.
When I've got a few spare minutes, I'll see if I can find some pictures.

End of week 2 of pre-academy at Dulles.
Today I’ve got paid to… walk around with some dope in my pocket around the airport; seriously!
If possession of government-issued weed sounds like a dream job to you keep in mind there were few mean K-9s on my tail. Yes, they use new officers as dog baits! Truth be told I have volunteered for that exercise since I’m all done with the video training they had for us for the pre-academy and it started to get boring in there (except for counting hours till FLETC).
Those four legged bastards were simply amazing. I had a pack of smokes with few joints inside in my front shirt pocket; I would hide my id, and just stand in line with passengers minding my own business and the dog would find me each and every time. Dogs are trained to simply sit and wait if they’ll find something; since I was in civilian clothes and with no ID some grandma gave me this look of deep disapproval when the dog ‘got me’
Each dog costs 6 to 8 grand, goes through few months of training, and is certified, as well as his ‘handler’. One needs to be with CBP for at least 3 years to even apply for K9 and supposedly the spots are quite difficult to get. But if you plan to smuggle something and K9 happens to work the terminal – good luck to you.
Another experience: google ‘bushmeat’. People bring that stuff from Africa – it is simply raw, uncooked, unprocessed meat, sometimes with pieces of fur still attached… they will wrap it in plastic and try to smuggle it into the country. When Agriculture Specialist intercepts one of those packages and opens it… there are maggots and flies in it… but the smell… I’m sorry about writing about the smells so much… the smell is something one has to experience to believe it… I had to actively flex my stomach muscles to keep my breakfast down and hightailed away from the Secondary Inspection area… they say you can get used to the smell after some time… I’m not entirely convinced if that is possible.
After two weeks on the job it does look even better then when I’ve started – I cannot say how other people will experience it – but to me it is simply awesome. So, hang in there, work on getting your CASS all green, count the days in TSU, keep on lowering that 1.5 miles time – this job is certainly worth the wait!CBPO Timeline
