When I worked in Montana Gov houses had a LONGGGGGGG wait list. Few houses (not bad houses, but not enough to go around) I lived 30 miles away from work (fuel effecincy is a must) and there was not a lot to choose from there. On the plus side, not much traffic....ever. Housing is one of the main problems facing the Northern border officers.

Which port did you work at? How bad was the 30 mile commute in winter? It looks like that will be the option I'm going to have in the near future and I would be interested to hear what your thoughts are on the commute.

The commute was not bad even in the winter, It takes some getting used to at first as I had come from the Southwest Border and had not seen snow in years!! I worked at several Ports in Montana, but would perfer not to post them here. You can PM me and I will tell you.

                      • BI Question ....

Do you meet with the background investigator before or after the BI? I have something I forgot to include on my BI paperwork. Almost 13 years ago I received a citation for open container. It was a festival weekend in a small town and the city suspended the ordinance till Sun 12am. A large group of people were standing outside a bar drinking, including me. At 12:10 a group of local police approached and wrote everyone a citation that had a beer. Nothing sever, I was just guilty of stupidity. Anyway, I paid the fine and had completely forgotten about it. I just remembered it over the weekend and that I did not include on my BI paperwork and it specifically ask for any alcohol related charges regardless of time if I remember correctly. Is there a way to notify them of something I forgot or do I bring it up when I meet with the BI?

From what I have heard and read legal. But always legal. i.e. I heard of a case where the spouse initially came to the U.S. illegally but later married and gained legal status. However clearance was not given to the applicant because of the initial illegal status of the spouse. Not sure if you can appeal that.
