  • DOH!

For the same reason I do not like the Beretta 96 Brigadier, the P2000 is double action only, and it does not compare to the quality, durability, and accuracy of a Glock. Also, I do not like the location of the magazine release, which takes a little bit of getting used to after releasing the magazine with my right thumb for so many years. The handgrip is shorter than the Glock's, and while rapid reloading during quals, my hand has gotten pinched between the magazine and the bottom of the grip on more than a few occasions. The barrel is shorter than my trusty old Glock 17, so accuracy went down at the fifteen yard line.

        • Patience, my friend, patience. TSU is just more of the same thing (waiting).

Even after you’ll get the call you still have to wait for EOD… it’s just a different kind of waiting then!

I don't. I expect there are some there or in Kalispell.

Expect quite the struggle in the winter to get into/out of the port with a 70+ mile one-way commute. People do it though, I know ND people who traveled 180 mile 2-way commutes.

            • Unsuitability for employment??

Can anyone give me an answer about BI's. I recently got a letter from DC saying that I was found unsuitable for employment because of a DWI I got 9 years ago. The thing is I was completely up front with all the information and didn't lie about anything. They said in the letter I needed to explain in detail what happened all those years ago and provide documentation (court documents). I wrote a great professional letter explaining everything and provided documents as well as letters of recommendation. Anyone know what will happen next. I really want this job.

I wouldn't see why this would be a problem since it was close to a decade ago. On the other hand they did close the announcement early because of to many applicants, and I am assuming you applied on this recent one? Maybe this time around there looking for folks with a clean record as compared to others that are not. I would keep fighting till you've ran out of options! What are they gona tell you, that they have not already....

                • I had originally applied in September 2007!! I didn't send in the info for the original location I had applied for so it delayed everything. The bad thing that they don't tell you is that you can't apply for two locations at the same time, when you do that it cancels you out of the first place you had applied for... so its been a long process. The good thing is that I'm graduated from college now and can go pretty much anywhere. The latest TSL letter said I was selected for St. Thomas USVI !! Any other advice??

There is no set schedule for opening announcements. They open them when they need to. You might see 3 in a year, you might see 1 in 2 years.

Before 12D/6C came about last July, it was fairly predictable to see a late winter/spring announcement and a fall/early winter announcement each year. It's much less predictable now, but I'd be willing to bet that they next announcement comes about before the calendar year is up.

From the sounds of this post, I presume you already received the initial letter stating you were unsuitable and responded. This would be CBP's response to your response? If that is the case you have two options. You can let it go and try in a few more years, or you can appeal the decision. The former is easy the latter would probably require a lawyer. A few pages back someone posted a link that shows the legal determinations for different security clearance issues. The adjudication process is the same, just different standards are used for suitability and clearance issues. Any advise we could give would be purely conjecture because we are not intimately familiar with your situation, so I'd consider my two options and go from there.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

For the intelectually challenged: If the government screws the people enough, it is the right and responsibility of the people to revolt and form a new government.

I dug the below post by an IEA from the IEA thread. I'll say it more or less mirrors what I've heard about the position...but I'm no expert on ICE/DRO. Truthfully, outside of training I've never met an IEA. ICE is a small organization, by CBP standards, and IEA's probably number 1/4 to 1/5 the total number of CBPOs.

The educational standards for an IEA and a CBPO should be roughly equal. I'm not sure what the minimum educational standards are for an ICE SA. Since it's a highly competive job, it's probably near impossible to get hired on as one with minimal qualifications.

If you are assigned to a camp, you will be a glorified Immigration CO! that does a lot of Bus and Van driving, booking in bodies (not enforce/cap work)and assignments such as: feed, medical, laundry (yes, really!) counting camp cards, key control, gate access control, clothing them, suicide watch, disturbance control and etc. When you are not doing that (at a camp) you will be making really good money on details all over the nation (fugops, cap, worksight enf.) and flying all over the world escorting aliens home, staying in 4 & 5 star hotels (most of the time) However, the Gov seems to be cutting back on escorts and doing more JPATS (conair) flights with contractors on the flights.

If you are assigned to a district office away from the border, your day will consist of mostly CAP work which is alot of van driving, alot of interviewing at jails and alot of desk work. You will not fly as much at a cap office but you will get details.

I am not really bitter, just disapointed, the big picture (for me) is it is hard to actually feel like your doing law enforcement, I have always felt more as a babysitter with a badge and a gun. I have been a IEA for 5 years now and although I have gained alot of experience in a short time and worked in 3 districts, the job satisfaction I was hoping for by my 5th year is just not there.

The plus side is the job security is outstanding, I have my 3 years career conditional so i can come back when i leave if i want, the money is good and you will just keep getting raises every year. The normal career track is to go from IEA to DO or SIEA, then SDDO, AFOD and then a DC boy, but the good ole'boy network is alive and strong so be patient.

                          Good luck to all.

Just wait, they will review everything and you will either be cleared to move on or get another letter. The waiting game is mostly what getting this job is about I think lol. I am not sure what kind of timeline you are looking at for all of this to clear, but you did your part now sit and wait lol.

Maybe mid Feb? This was before I knew anything about NOR's TSU's or BI's LOL. Went to a job fair registered and was sent a test date.
