  • I'm just curious to know when first logging into CASS, what does the background investigation originally say? ( before any steps have been completed) The only step left for me is the BI, which says it's in the security office. I'm just wondering if that means someone has been assigned to my case. Thanks

I have heard that, we will take it one day at a time and just try in two, right now with the economy being the way it is , it is definetly not worth turning this job down. The thing I dont get is there are around 5 to 6 people with enough time in at port huron that want the soo but they will not let them transfer.

      • new fitness test

I've been stalking the CBP website for awhile now waiting to see the specifics of the new fitness test. They finally posted at least an idea of what it'll be like, so I wanted to share for anyone else curious. My written is Wednesday, can't wait!

Effective July 1, 2009, a new Pre-employment Fitness Test (PFT) will be implemented for all CBP Officer candidates who have not taken the PFT.

The new test consists of two parts. Candidates must pass each part to continue in the hiring process. Part One requires candidates to achieve a minimum cumulative passing score; Part Two must be successfully completed.

        Part One

        * Push-ups (as many proper form as you can in 1 minute)
        * Side Step Test (as many line touches as you can in 10 seconds)
        * Sit-up Test (as many proper form as you can in 1 minute)
        * Lift/Lower Test (8 cycles as quickly and safely as possible)

        Part Two

        * Step Test (step in cadence for 5 minutes)

Revised Fitness Testing Fact Sheets and Narrated CDs will be available on this website by June 1, 2009. Please continue to check for updates regarding this change.

I am curious as to what have you read on how to prevent them?
I have been running for the last 2 months and last week for the first time I have experience what shin splints are. Since then I have given my legs time to heal(in the mean time I have been hitting the gym, working other parts of my body, and been on a bike for cardio work) and today I bought new running shoes(going to try them out tonight). Any more info on my problem or links on how to prevent them would be helpful.

Currently, swap/transfer policies are in negotiations between the union and CBP. Who knows what the policies will be like 2 years down the road? I'll go out an a limb and say that current policies is not all that supported by journeyman officers or even lower management, from what I've seen. There's not a lot of overall sense to it.

If you get the same investigators as I did (you may since we live in the same area) you'll get a random letter in the mail from one of them. It basically says what documents to have ready for your interview, etc. and to contact him if he hasn't already talked to you. I called the number that was on the letter and he said he was going to try calling me later that day and appreciated me for calling him first. He went over the stuff that was on the letter and set up a day and place to meet for the interview.

No poster has intended to offend, counter, or discredit your situation and circumstances. Instead of recognizing the assistance offered by strangers, you accuse groundlessly others of belittling you and not being sympathetic.

There is no sympathy on this forum, no sympathy in real life for any of our actions and experiences, that is life and reality. What this forum has to offer are current CBP officers, and applicants like myself, who are here to benefit each other in the hiring process by offering advice and knowledge. It seems you refuse to take in and process logically the abundant amount of information others who are in the field and have been in the same position as yourself have to offer. If that is clearly the case, your situation mostly resembles a rabid dog biting furiously without a cause at anyone and everyone, including individuals offering to assist you with the best intention in mind. Good luck in your pursuit of a securing a position as a CBP officer or any other profession/occupation.

Haha "rabid dog biting furiously", you kill me, I love it!

Sounds like the first step you have already completed, getting new running shoes every 400 miles. Do not over-stride, do not slap feet while running, strengthen your calf muscles with exercises, alternate days, start with warm-up walking, stretch after warming-up, and stop running if having any pain.

For meeting with the background investigator there really is no dresscode. A suit is not necessary but you do not want to showup in jeans and a t-shirt looking like a slacker. Wear comfortable business casual since it will take almost 2 hours to get through all of your SF86.
