Looking at the process everyone goes through to get hired by CBP. Looks very extensive and complete. I know when I was picked up as a Customs Inspector in 94-95. I worked at the (Dulles) port office as a motor vehicle operator/computer specialist. I will never for get when the asst. port director came up to me and mentioned that Congress in Enacted COPRA and asked if I wanted to be a inspector. He liked my worked ethics and military background. Gave him my 171 and in 2 weeks I did my medical, drug test and then went to FLETC. I don't even remember if there was a written test back then, most guys we hired was coming out of the military. Glad there is a hiring process in place. Again Good Luck to you all.
Put in for TDY's to HQ, NTC and SCI when you guys get your years in too.

My hubby joined Customs back in 97 and the process was a lot shorter then. Like you, he was ex-military and the hiring process did not include the test nor the VBT. And he was going to FLETC within a few weeks. So, yes the process was a lot quicker back then. It is good that they have the process that they have now mainly to make sure that people are right for the position. It can be tedious and long process and let's not talk about the agony of waiting but obviously it's needed for Customs to make sure they are hiring good candidates.Toughmommy

2 Questions?
I took the CBP exam on 2/13/07. I scored an 82 and I had selected three geographic locations prior to registering to take the test. After three months, I received a tentative selection packet for one of my geographic locations, Washington State. I was reluctant to fill out the packet because I felt like I would not move out of Houston, Texas for the CBP position. I went ahead thru the process and completed the medical, fitness, drug test, video based test. I had an investigator backgroung me as well back in August 2007. In November I realized there is no way I was moving for the position, so I declined my offer and asked the Hiring center to put my test score back in for Texas Eastern Houston Locations, and so they did. I honestly did not think that i would ever hear back from them. In January 2008, I received another tentative selection packet with my geographic choice of Texas Eastern. I was excited and I filled out all that tidious paperwork again and made all those copies again. When I log into CASS, my medical, fitness, drugtest, and interview all switched over to my new CASS Id number.
However, will I be investigated twice within a 6 month period for the same position, and if so, will the process take as long as it did last time?
Also, Houston, has a very high locality(almost 27%), do you get the locality while you are in Georgia at training or just once you get back from Georgia?
