  • Hey is anyone familiar with time frames for the background check?? After the BI showed up my CASS went from:
    1. Checked list to;
    2. Pre-employment papers received to;
    3. Referred to EOD scheduling and even received a signed letter telling me not to get fat because of training lol

    And then a month later

    4. Back to the checked list with the Background being in the Security office. It's been in that status for about 1 1/2 months now. I've contacted scheduling and apparently there is a first wave that is called CW(cleared waiver) and at that point they go ahead and send you to EOD scheduling. They say that this is could be for any reason from missing paperwork to finding something in the investigation. I have no criminal activity or history. The only thing I can think of is a PI that I got like 7 years ago that was erased with a diversion (never been a criminal) and I fully disclosed that info to the BI. Since that happened though I've had no problems with background checks with everyone from the Airport Security to Casinos nationwide. Any feedback from people who know on if this is normal or if this is generally a bad precursor to a rejection would be greatly appreciated. I dying to get my foot in the door and this has been nothing shy of an emotional roller coaster for me and my family. Any info=GREATLY Appreciated

      Hello Thulsa75!

      The hiring process with Customs is a roller coaster! I have been on this roller coaster for a year and a half and hopefully I can get off soon. My BI took 6 months to clear. There are issues that may arise that will cause any one's BI to take a little longer than usual. You never know, you might hear something within the next few weeks. Also, keep in mind, this is the holidays and people are going to be out of the office.

      • For those of you with GS-5 approval, do you have college credits? I'm still waiting for a decision and I have an Associates Degree and 5 years working exp.

          Thank you btw Toughmommy,

          I have only a year under my belt with college credits and no military experience, but....I have 12-13 yrs work related experience and got a 100% on the test. Their qualifications, from what I read, is pretty open as long as its people to people related

            Hello outlookingin!

            I have been approved for the GS-5 level and that is with 10 years military experience (not LE though, I was a Combat Arms Instructor) and the remaining years have been administrative and retail. I have some college and attending college now but I did not put that on my qualifications. So just like thulsa75 stated if you have people to people experience then you're okay. With what you have, you should be okay.

              Hey Thulsa,

              I am in the same boat, the last thing cleared about 6 weeks ago and since then my case has also been in the security office.

              Who knows what the reasoning is. The process is a roller coaster, but at this point if it doesn't happen I will be bummed out, but not the end of the world.

              Good luck and keep us posted if your BI clears.

              • Also, does anyone have any contact numbers for the Minnepolis hiring center? Preferably someone live.

                Thanks

                  No "live" people available that I know of. Only number I know of is from the CASS page. Deepest I ever got was from the Scheduling unit and it was an email. You may request by email to be contacted...but I honestly don't know if it would make a difference. Usual wait for a response is about 2 business days and that's at the END of the day, like 4:45pm and that's just for email.

                    Hello deyosurf19!

                    It depends on what you're trying to find out. What units are you looking for? I have a number for the oral board unit and the medical unit where I have spoken to live people. I have an individual that I speak to for everything else via email and he is quite responsive.

                      Outlookingin,

                      I was approved for GS-5 approval and have a bachelor's degree in CJ and 7 years of work experience. I was hoping for the GS-7, but was told I would have to apply again to get it. Good luck!

                                I came on as a GS-7 with a 4 year degree in Criminal Justice and 5 years of Military Police experience. I have a friend I work with came on as a GS-5 with a 4 year degree. I would accept the GS-5 because you are going to be a GS-11 in 3 years.
