First, If you choose Port Everglades it consists of Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood international Airport AND the Sea Port. You will not know which one you will recieve UNTIL YOU GRADUATE THE ACADEMY. Once back from the academy, you will do an additional 10 weeks of training at your port in which you will be CROSS TRAINED since the Airport and the Sea Port is a stone throw away from eachother. Most importantly, Port Everglades Sea Port IS the busiest Sea Port in the South and operates 7 DAYS A WEEK. She said, whether you are at the airport or sea port, THEIR IS ALOT OF OVERTIME AVAILABLE!!.

To my Veterans, The academy is technically On the Job Training and you have the option to use your G.I. Bill once you start you Pre-academy. Using the G.I. Bill will give you an additional $700 a month for your first six months, $500 a month after that for about a year and a half ON TOP OF YOUR SALARY AND NOT INCLUDING OVERTIME! If you want to opt for this, when you report to Pre-Academy they will gladly set this up for you.
I'm a Veteran (Navy) and this is like music to my ears! Thanks. How did you find this out, who told you about this, and who do we set this up with? At the academy, at our POE???

The system is funky today. I always type in my response, for YES type 1, for NO type 2.

Is it already hot in GA?

I'm not there yet, I will be in a month. From what I gather it's in the 70s.

          • I was back in Brunswick about a week ago. It wasn't hot then, but it was pushing 70ish.

Come the end of May...it'll be likely get uncomfortable, especially for us more NB guys.

Being a Cali guy...I'm not looking forward to the HUMIDITY in Georgia I hear it's is like being in a sauna...I'm spoiled living in San Diego...Not much humidity during the summer time.

The forms that are overnighted to you once you get the call has a contact person that you are suppose to call to find out what time to report to your Port. I called that person and I had my list of questions for her to answer and she was really nice and helpful. She was a CBPO Supervisor and the person who will give me my Pre-Academy orientation. She said on the first day I get there, she will help me prepare the necessary VA forms for the G.I. Bill. Using the G.I. bill is not too shabby. According to my calculations, that will be an extra $8,000 tax free on top of your CBP salary on your first year!! Freakin SHHWEEET!!
