Most of what you will get off of honorfirst is for Border Patrol. I would just go to the CBPO FAQs so you don't get confused between the two.

        • Anyone know the likelihood of being transferred after accepting a position at a place you applied for? I ask because my husband and I just bought a house... I am wondering if one can be transferred anywhere at any time, or anywhere within the geographical location that was applied for...? Thanks for any info on this.

Looking at your posts, are you sure you didn't apply for Border Patrol Agent instead of CBPO?

                Thx Jay and Yoda,

It has already been 90 days for me. I was just hoping to preempt the need to wait longer for my med to clear by submitting it at the medical...

                • that math was hard, and I considered myself pretty good at math lol

do we get told when we enter BI?

                  • The math was much harder than the study guide questions. In the guide the answers were in the tens and hundreds. But on the exam the answers were in the hundred thousands and millions. Plus without a calculator.

The math was pretty hard for me also. I must have done really well on the other parts though because I still score well.

As far as the BI goes, after you complete the forms you won't hear anything about it until you are contacted by your background investigator.

After you submit your forms, they will do an initial "screening" to probably give you an interim clearance, this is if your port is one of those in the "fast track"... You will eventually see on CASS, "in the security office", and this is when you know the BI process has begun.

Well at least you know you have that timeline beat... but I have yet to hear anyone on this forum getting that cleared before they went through their Medical Examination. Breathe easy knowing that you won't have to add the 90 day waiting period after your Medical...

                            Yeah, it could be worse

Yoda I was wondering one other thing. I have a pending position with DHS - CIS and it looks like they want to do an interim clearance for the position I applied for. I already went through the drug screen for DHS - CIS and I was hoping that would transfer over to DHS - CBP... any thoughts?

When they do an interim clearance do they still call your current boss and references first before issuing the interim or do they usually just do a fbi name/fingerprint check then check references later?

Their timeframe for that job is a little to fast for me so despite the decent payscale I'll probably decline it for the CBP position or hopefully the asylum officer position I applied for.

                            Thx again.

The only steps that carry over are those for Border Patrol Agent, and that would only be your BI, Drug and Medical. It doesn't matter what agency clearance you have, you still have to go through the process like everyone else.
As interim clearances go, they do Name/ Fingerprint, credit check and a quick look at your forms to see if there are any red flags or irregularities. All of your references are contacted by the investigator/s as part of the Full Investigation.
