  • Two young at apply?

I just applied to take the upcoming test. I'm really young, turnung 20 in feb. I know the process takes a long time to get hired, but I want to know if they will still look at me? I'm fairly fluent in spanish.

That is rather young, however do not let anyone tell you you're wasting your time. People have a better shot at something they want when they fight for it - take every opportunity and follow it until the road ends.

Figure it this way - you'll at least know what the test is like at the minimum so if you don't get selected this time around, you will be a step up over the rest of the crew the next go around.

Hire time is generally from 9 months to 24+ months - depending on your BG and how quick OPM is.

      fmr.

Frankly, I cant imagine this place being much worse than where I came from. And in 19 years, I have worked with tons of guys that would p*ss and moan if they didnt have to show up to work and their check was mailed to their house because they had to walk to the mailbox.

Frankly, my days of chasing mutts through the projects and booming doors are behind me, so all of the whos a real cop and who's not is irrelevant to me with this agency.

Anyhow, I wanted to get some idea of what to expect in Glynco, (as much detail as possible). And I would like to get a real idea of days off and what the day to day duty schedule are like for a new employee, and does it improve over time. Is it steady, with steady days off, or does it rotate? Are there three shifts and what are they? I would be looking for assignment at JFK.

I'm sure I'll think of other stuff but thats it for now... Thanks.
Hi there - and welcome aboard. Best thing to do is go down to JFK - talk with the officers there, see if you can be escorted up to the ramp and see what they do, how their schedules work etc. Each duty station has differant schedules and some are influenced by local bargining unit agreements.
Glynco - I think I posted what to expect in this thread somewhere back - maybe page 18 or so, check it out. For former LEOs it's not that bad, just have to pass the run and the mental challenge is fairly tough for most. I can say at JFK you'll be working a lot of forced OT. They are a busy airport.
        Hope this helps!

        Fmr.

                  • Is there an online list of vbt testing sites? I was curious to know if there was a testing site in ohio. Also if you cannot make the date that they tell you your test is on, can you change it?

                    • At the test in Norfolk, VA, the clock brought by the proctor stopped working, and she didn't get informed of it for at least 20 minutes during the first section. It failed again during the first peronality/experience inventory.

Texas - All Other Southwest Border Locations.

Word was circulating through some of the people testing that it was possible to request a switch to Montana as the port of preference, which I am considering.

Where is home going to be for you?

                            • NOPD- 10-4 and thanks.

Took the test today. Except for the math, not a big deal. Obviously one of the older lads there.

Gonna make my way over to JFK and talk to those guys soon.

That math section for someone that hasnt had to work a problem on paper in 20 years is rough... Damn computers and calculators.
