  • It's anyone from 19-5 still here and if so, where are you in the process ?. Hi! I'm from NYC, I got a called asking if I was still interested to continue the process and that he was going to put my name on a list for the POLY. I just want to know, what's next or if anyone from 19-5 got the same call. Thank you and be safe out there.

  • When we receive the final offer and pick our location do we need to call our POE and let them know when we are starting or will they send us information about our EOD date in an email?

They will tell you when you pick. When you receive your letter you will find out who your poc is at your port.

Flapeeps They gave me a call a couple days ago and I picked my location. Do they send us info in the mail and then we call after we get the paperwork?

They will email you the final offer letter with your EOD date, port location, and FLETC class information about a month before your EOD date (at least that's how it was for me) then they email you the onboarding information few weeks after final offer letter. You complete what you can for onboarding before you EOD and finish submission of onboarding at the port on your 1st day. Your assigned point of contact from your port will contact you about a week before your EOD date with all details you need in order to be prepared for your 1st day.

Awesome thank you for the info

  • I applied for 9 in 2018 got rejected and reapplied for 5/7 immediately. I was finally offered 5/7 in mar 2020. And in may 2020 reapplied for 9 with resume adjustments, for 9 and approved almost immediately. I received the eod letter june 16 and called a few days later with the 9 offer. Before i could even ask they asked me if i wanted to keep my eod and location which i said yes to. Not sure if i will get an updated letter but it doesnt hurt to apply for 9 again but on ur resume highlight any security or leo background info. Hope this helps everyone

I was a Sergeant in the army combat arms MOS, now i’ve been working security for a couple years and got rejected for gs9 .. its discouraging because ive seen some that were lower in rank, dont have much experience outside the military and somehow got approved for GS9 .. maybe its the questionnaire for GS9 that im answering wrong .. it says “have u done xyz as a law enforcement officer” and i say no because i was never LEO even tho i HAVE done xyz ...

Same EOD and Fletc however I'm headed to San Fransico…..thinking about asking for something different.....Newark is a place im considering. Is that where you currently live?

  • Florida DOC officer (1 year) here. I am curious about what kind of questions they ask on the CBP polygraph. Does anyone have any insight or information on where I can get specifics? I haven't done anything wrong, always lived an honorable lifestyle and stayed out of trouble, but am nervous they will ask if I have committed traffic offenses or minor crimes and looked at pornography. Will I not get hired on because I used to take candy from the store as a brat or occasionally drive 5mph over the limit? These are the questions that haunt me.

My only advice is don't lie about anything when asked. People have failed for lying about things that won't even DQ you.

I’m still waiting for my poly, only thing I have left. All I can say about any poly is be honest. They care much more about honesty than stealing candy as a kid, or getting a ticket. I have no idea what questions they’ll ask but from other experiences if they ask about committing a crime, I mean yeah we all have. We’ve all sped, ran a stop sign, those are questions any polys expect you to say yes to because everyone has done it. If you’ve never committed any crime ever that’s verrry unlikely, and therefore a red flag.

I know guys that drive an hour and a half to work. I'm not aware of any prohibition on distance.

Duty "stations" are a BP thing...if you are really talking of stations.

Depending on the port, there maybe a more or less practical limitation on distance, due to overtime, weather and a whole list of other considerations that would make excessive travel impractical to impossible.

ES90 merlin436 Thanks for the quick response. I EOD at Newark, New Jersey and was beginning to look for places to live.

  • I was wondering what people thought of the job as a CBPO? I mean no disrespect by this, just curious on how the job satisfaction is? Is working in an airport simply stamping passports and screening airplanes? Is it pretty mundane or can it be exciting? I’m coming from a fairly active military lifestyle and worry I will be bored if I choose to continue this process. Yes, I have watched the CBP show on Netflix, but its a show and that stuff is always dramatized. I want to hear directly from people who work in this profession with no BS on trying to sell me the job.

If you want more action go to a southern border port and catch loads or bp and chase drug runners and track illegals

go for BPA, it has lot of actions, chasing down criminals, illegals, drugs,etc.... if you chose CBPO, expect what Merlin436 said. I know several guys that went for BPA because they can't stand "boring tasks"... stamping passports and checking luggage days after days...months after months...

The BP isn't exactly the apex of "LE" work either. Lots of PAs leave the BP because they're stuck working checkpoints, holding facilities, located in boring, isolated areas or otherwise in an undesirable situation.

If you really want action in traditional "law enforcement", skip federal jobs and go state/local.

Maybe look into capital police or bureau of Indian affairs. They would be the Federal LEOs closest to civilian LE. Probably the most “action” you will see in the federal side. Most agency have great training but very little action. Look into Nuclear material currier if you like shooting but 90% of the time your a glorified truck driver or maybe the FBI and get on one of their Response teams.

  • Hm with the cases increasing I don't see them opening up polygraphs anytime soon in NJ/NY. At this rate in another 2 years I'll vest at my current job, I wonder what will happen first.

corsair Yeah, I see that happening, plus the airports are slow and now they even send officers over to the border for 2 months from NJ/NY ports.

That is what it seems like another surge in cases of Covid-19 nationally then we are stuck in the hiring process for months now, might not hear back anytime soon until we have a vaccine I guess it is what it is, got to be patient and positive, for now I will keep doing what am doing and probably invest in a different career.

Stay positive it will happen. I live not too far from the airport myself and they are landing and taking off more often now so it’s just a matter of time.

  • I received a phone call today to schedule the polygraph in Illinois.

Picasso, is the location in Chicago? That's where I had my first poly. If that's the case, there's a nice holiday inn right across the street from the customs house that has fairly inexpensive parking for the area. Not too many free parking spots around. Good luck!

bmak18 did you ask for Chicago as your port or the vacancy announcement had that as one of the options. I just started my process but hope to be able to pick Chicago. Any advise is greatly appreciated.

  • Paperwork in to skip the poly has been submitted. Not sure how quick that'll speed it up but being in a backed up AOR for polys but hoping to get a final offer by the end of the year.
