These are my dates :
12/27/2018 Applied
1/8/2019 Entrance Exam
2/26/2019 Structured Interview
2/28/2019 Medical
3/28/2019 Fitness Test
I passed everything above, the rest is in progress. I have 2 questions, I forgot what locations I have put for my preferred locations. Is there a way to find out? And are they set on it or can I change them when I am given an offer? Other question, I never received an email about passing the fitness test. Should I have gotten something?

Thank you! It does say on the application that location is negotiable so I may be wrong but what I think they do is when you completed everything they give you all the available vacancies and you pick one because I am sure they do change as time goes on, especially if you are waiting for over a year.
As for the CASS it does state that the fitness test is completed. Thanks again!

When I got the call for BP they offered me 1 town in Cali, 1 in New Mexico, and the other 6 were in Texas. Mind you the biggest town has a population of around 7,000 people. I asked if there were any other options I could choose from and he said no. I could not relocate to a town that was 100 miles or closer to where I am originally from. I guess that’s how HQ wants it.

Border Patrol has a "hundred mile rule" when hiring applicants where they require new hires to move 100 miles or more from their address of record when they applied. Supposedly, it addresses some of the corruption issues within the BP.
OFO has no such rule. That's a good thing, if you ask me. If anything, OFO needs more focused local recruitment and hiring...not less.

yes, chicago police department. i gave up on it last year when i found out i passed the interview with cbp.... didnt realize i was gn wait this long to get through the process. i reapplied with chicago pd last week.... will most likely get hired before the end of the year, maybe within 6 months of today.
i also put in with border patrol 19-7. all i gotta do is interview, fitness, poly and drug.. going in provisional. hopefully that will go faster than cbp

Best of luck - I try and check the new job listings every morning to see if something peaks my interest. I tried reading up on that fast track hiring process, have you seen that? Seems like theres a lot of requirements.Last edited by corsair; 04-16-2019, 04:52 PM.

Srhernza115 they do but everyone says they are cheap and uncomfortable, I EOD July 8

I have a friend that went to the BP academy and he was issued the same boots that you ordered, unless for customs it’s different. They’re like $300+.
-
Oh ok well good to know. Might start looking into some.

has anyone been verbally told that they failed the poly but actually ended up passing? I took my poly 4/10/19 and felt like it went well but then at the end of the 2 hours I was told I was failing for major crimes and to admit to something else? I did nothing but tell the truth and stuck to my guns on that. then he shook my hand and said someone will be in contact and that he is not the one who makes the final decision. wind was taken out of my sails has this happened to anyone else? Ive come this far and now this?

So I heard that if you’re already a federal employee for DHS that your seniority (EOD date) for your current agency transfers over. Is that true?

Highly doubt it...only your vacation bids will matter...your shift bids you're at the. Bottom of the flag pole in seniority
-
As far as work and leave bids go, seniority outside of OFO only counts as a tiebreaker in the case of two or more people hired on the same day. It also counts towards total fed time as far as annual leave accumulation at the 6 hour three year and 8 hour 15 year level.

Got the call today and offered the job at GS9 with a start date in mid august.
They wanted me to come on a provisional BI clearance, but i advised them that I would like my background to fully clear before I EOD so I am back at the waiting game, hope one of you fine folks got the call in my stead.

I wanted to ask for some opinions
so i don’t have much experience with handling guns, and i was thinking of going to my local gun range to practice using a handgun in order to feel more prepared for the academy.
Do you guys think this is a good idea? I’ve been told practicing on my own will get me into some bad habits and it’s better if i learn while in the academy, but i also don't want to go completely ignorant on handling guns
FYI I’m still waiting on my background to clear and then the drug test, so i still have a way to go til i get an EOD date

I've never heard of a firearms instructor who recommend independent pre-FLETC familiarization with a firearm. Not ever.
Plus, there's a completely new gun to be issued on the horizon. A Glock 47...which doesn't exist in the public, consumer market. Anyone at the academy today is likely looking at transitioning to a new gun in 2021...give or take.

I assume if you applied to an announcement for a specific port that is what they offer you when you get the call. I had my drug test today and everything is green besides the background. I’m guessing I have to meet with the investigator before they offer me a provisional.

Congratulations! You have been referred to the Training and Scheduling Unit. Once we reach your name and have an available vacancy we will contact you. The offer is based on operational need determined by the Agency.
