  • Is the provisional clear option only related to your EOD? Do you guys choose Provisional clear or wait until completely done?

Tremellio yeah I hear you brother. But on the flip side I think of it like this: CBP is spending a hell of a lot of money putting everyone through the pre-employment process. I'm not sure how much it costs, but it's gotta be upwards of $5000+ per person, not including the bonuses if people select AZ, CA or TX. Factor in a 33% bonus and that's tens of thousand of dollars they're paying out. Someone who selected provisional just means they send the BI packet to an adjudicator and they give it the once-over to see if anything red flags. So why would CBP bring someone on board provisionally if, in the infinite wisdom of OPR, they know they aren't going to pass the BI (short of someone outright lying about things)?

In any case, I think I'll prefer to wait until I'm fully cleared. I have jobs to do in the meantime.

If you EOD on a provisional and your background doesn't clear before you graduate you turn your badge, creds and body armor in and it gets shipped back to your port. It can take a few months after graduation for it to clear at Max

  • Well folks, today officially marks 200 days in the process for me. Not a lot to show for it so far. I have eQip, fitness and SI done. That’s about it though... been waiting 4 months for medical clearance, and 3 months for poly scheduling so far.

Kind of beginning to doubt I’ll be able to EOD in under a year at this point. A word of caution to those thinking of applying or just starting out, this is a LOOOOOONG process, to say the least. The real scary thing is, there are people who’ve been waiting much longer than me. O.O

      17-7 Announcement

      Brownsville POE

      EOD: 1/23/19
      FLETC: 2/7/19

Patience definitely is a virtue. I'm a 17-7 applicant and I just received the call yesterday 8/21/18. I sat in the process for 1 year, 2 months, 21 days (447 Days). I was stuck in TSU at 88% since 2/13/18 that's 6 months and 8 days (189 Days). I even had to redo my medical on 8/8/18 because I had been in the process so long. Being prior military I fully understand the whole "Hurry up and Wait" but applying for CBPO and BPA take the "Hurry and Wait" to a another level. These process speeding up and slowing down to a dead stop can truly test your patience. The best advise I was given to make it thru this process is to get whatever they ask for done with a quickness and to basically continue on with your life until your contacted for the next step. Watching other announcements who applied after you either complete steps before you and receive their Final Offer before you can be nerve racking and annoying. Congrats to everyone who completed the process and has received their EOD dates with a quickness. In my opinion I do believe that the process operates off the location you are in and whether or not the administrator who handles your next step is available.

All you can do while going the process is focus on you and your normal everyday life until you make it all the way thru. If you really want this career opportunity then you just gotta have faith, ride the wave, be patient.

Good Luck to all who still in the hunt. Your time is coming.

Wow, that's a long wait bro, I see many people here have a long wait too.
I'm ok of waiting but It will suck if I fail my poly after the long wait. I disclosed everything on the Background and have nothing to hide, but I get nervous easily, I'm afraid that will make me fail.

  • Plus with DH they can pull you and push you through if you have a good application.

Well that could suck. I'm almost 12 months in. 348 days in. So I'll probably have to redo medical again. And it seems the average wait time for medical is 4-6 months. So I'm looking at 16-18 months. Which puts me at possible eod late next year?

congrats! happy to hear they offered you some places in the rgv. gives hope to my friend who also applied for this area, after we were told they wouldn't be hiring for here for a while we kinda got bummed out.

i'd give up my incentive to trade ports with you lol
i'd love to be in bronwsville..its home for me.
i've got laredo with an EOD date of 11/27 and FLETC 12/12 if you'd be interested in a trade..along with the 25% incentive lol if its even possible

    • Sadly I resigned from CBP on August 15th due to personal reasons whilst at FLETC. A few hours later on the same day I realized I made a huge mistake and withdrew my resignation. However they would not reinstate me and escorted me off of FLETC. I'm trying to get back but its not happening. Looks like I will have to reapply and go through the whole process again. In small print it reads you have until midnight until a resignation is final but they took no notice of that, I would have had better chance at disputing this if I had put my withdrawal in writing. I was at FLETC for 6 weeks, my class is moving on without me. The first week of FLETC was the hardest, I'm so not looking forward to redoing that, especially the first couple of days. FYI if you miss more than 3 days of FLETC, you can never rejoin your class.

N.N. it says address whatever the issue before reapplying so I need to find out what those issues are.

This determination does not prevent you from reapplying. CBP recommends that applicants address the factors that may have led to the unfavorable suitability determination prior to reapplying for another CBP position.

    • Damn. Well here’s some good news for the hopefuls, I applied on the DH 18-12 announcement for GL9 and so far I have Eqip,Medical, Fitness and SI all schedule before the announcement closes. Seems to be pretty fast?

I was wondering that as well. I've seen prior posts mentioning BI being sent to OPR for review. So I don't know if we get that again like we did with EQIP when it goes to final adjudication or what. My final BI meeting was July 25th and he said he turned it in July 26th. No emails or anything since.

    • Hello all! First off, I want to send a shout-out to sadie99 ... it's so sad to hear that you had to resign, but hey, personal reasons are personal and no one can fault you for it. We can Monday Morning Quarterback your decision until the cows come home, but it doesn't take away the fact that you've got to do the entire process again. I hope to see you at FLETC when I'm ready to go (which might not be for a while). That lets me segway into my true reason for writing this.

So, this isn't exactly CBPO related, but it touches on it. About a year ago I applied for a Protection Security Officer position with a federal contractor to DHS. I had to fill out an SF-85P for the job, and after 12 long months I was notified that I got cleared. I start work next month and couldn't be happier to get out from working two jobs just to make ends meet. I think this gives me the "sign" I've been hoping for when it comes to EOD-ing provisionally, or waiting until I'm cleared. Based on lots of people's timelines I can expect to get cleared and get my EOD date ~12-13 months after my initial application date, which gives me a solid 9 months to give to this security company.

That being said, will the favorable results from my SF-85P weigh in any way on the SF-86?

Thanks for reading everyone, and if I don't get to talk to any of you, enjoy your weekend!

What clearance do you have? And I’ve seen people with top secret get turned down from Cbp so it’s all case by case Just be open like a book and follow all directions. If you want it bad enough you will get through. But don’t put ya eggs in one basket. It’s still a tiresome process, keep focus!

    • It seems there’s been a huge surge of people getting “The Call” this week. I’ve seen people who are being assigned FLETC dates as far out as February. Kind of wonder what that means for those of us still in the middle of the process... if the academy is already booked for the next 6 months, I kind of worry they’re going to slow everyone else way down (since there’s no rush to get people finished now with no FLETC spots open). Either that or when we finally are finished, we’re going to end up sitting in TSU for months, maybe even years, until spots open up. This process is one let down after another.

No need to be negative. I think just getting to the TSU alone is a milestone and I would sit in TSU for months rather than sit through a long poly wait. Be happy that you’re chosen to go through this process remember not everyone that applied got the chance to be selected to compete
