Wow that’s insane. Good for you. I’m 18-1 and awaiting the polygraph. I took my SI right around when you did yours 03/19, also opted out of pre clearance. What location did you apply to ? And what pay grade ?

I put San Luis as my primary, GS-9 pay grade but I just got my NOR for 18-5 VRA GS-9 so hopefully that'll all move over and I can get a little more flexibility in location at the end (assuming I make it that far and assuming there is any more flexibility if at all.)

every site is different pending their availability, I requested the Newark location so as long as you chose that one as well then the timeline should match up

    • Found this:

      https://nemo.cbp.gov/hrm/cbpo_fitness.pdf

      Page 19 says:

To graduation from the Academy you must be able to successfully meet the

      Fitness Graduation Standards:

      • 1.5 Mile Run - 15 minutes or less

      • Sit and Reach – 12.5 inches

      • Push-ups – 24 in one minute

      • 220 Yard Run – 45 seconds or less

Granted, this is dated 2009. If anything the standards have gone down.

On the first part of it it says you gotta do the run etc within the first 3 days you get there. With that being said, is there a standard for those events or does it just gauge where everyone is at before the academy starts?

You do the test three times at the academy. You only need to pass the last one but if you fail it you get two chances to pass the events you failed and if you still can't pass you will be sent back to your port to either be fired or they send you back and you start at day 1 again.

I know someone that had a very bad experience in Laredo (not with her). I was also offered a poly in Laredo with the woman, I think her name is June, I declined since they gave me 4 different polygraph examiners and locations to choose from.

Oh really? I hope they give me that option too and not just Laredo and with HER! I have a friend that she literally made her cry, she got so stressed out and then in the end she was just like, you failed but maybe they'll give you a second chance but I highly doubt it.

    • Advice time!

Taking another job that begins in August. Meanwhile I have my application in with CBP. Through everything and took provisional clearance. SI is scheduled. If I go through everything, I’d have to defer because I really want to try this other job for a year. Should I continue with the process and do the SI & poly? If I did take the job with CBP (eventually), I’d only want it if I can be somewhere in Florida. Would this be a good “reason” to defer? Will they allow me to defer? Please give advice!

      Thanks!

Yes continue the process. What if you don’t like the new job you take? Have the CBP for backup. Doesn’t hurt you to go through the process!

    • If you get a call and get stationed at a Port that offers locality pay...At what point do they start paying you the locality pay difference? Is it at your EOD?

Standard locality pay starts on day one. The 25% recruitment incentive, if applicable, kicks in as a single payment after a couple of months or so.

    • I believe you get tested initially, but just have to pass the one at the end as far as fitness.

My two cents would be go through the process and then if they call, ask for FL. The poly is a coin flip. If you knock that out it is good, like the SI, for a couple years. Then you can re-apply at any time and that will roll over to that application. I do not know if they will let you defer.

They will only let you defer for medical, military, education or a pre paid trip within 90 days of eod

      • To everyone else who is CBP already, Anyone have issues getting their leave (from DOJ - BOP) to transfer with them. Just wondering how long it will take to see it show up in my leave balance. Seems like anyone who transferred from another department is having issues with getting to to credit into CBP.

I went from another DHS agency into CBP with no issues. I imagine it depends on what department you're coming from.

      • Dilemma Time

I got an email for the structured video based interview for Agriculture Specialist for April 9, after that it should only be the drug test and that's it ill be placed into the scheduling unit waiting to be called for an offer, I am trying to get Laredo since that's where my husband works as well as CBPO. I am also in the process for CBPO, waiting to be scheduled for the polygraph which can be anytime now, also trying to stay in Laredo. My dilemma is this, it's more likely that I will get offered Laredo with CBPO than with CBPAS, however, if I dont pass the poly with CBPO, even though its not required for CBPAS it will affect both applications and im screwed for 2 years for both positions. With the statistics of the polygraph, I dont know if I am going to pass or not...

        Either
I withdraw from CBPO and stick to CBPAS and God knows if they'll offer me Laredo, if not I would have to defer...
        or
I stay with both applications, take the poly and risk both (you never know)... so I can hopefully get Laredo with CBPO

I am clueless as to what to do, that's why I am here for your opinion D:

The poly is not required for CBPAS but it would still affect it? If that is the case, even though I can't see how it should if its not required for their process but if that was the case, I personally would do Option 1.

I agree option 1 seems like your best bet. Maybe since your husband is at Laredo they will give you Laredo with CBPAS

RJ_Jersey I know! I even asked and well they explained to me that it doesnt look good that I failed a federal polygraph considering that as an CBPAS you have access to the same detabase. They didnt go deep in details just that it would definitely affect me for both applications.

That's tough. Idk if you can do this but maybe, go to the polygraph and if you think you failed it withdraw your application before they get the results in. The administer of the polygraph usually gives you a good idea if you passed or failed the test.
