In regards to Medical I also had a back injury and had surgery for it in 2015; I went for my medical in August and I am still waiting for a clearance so it will be awhile for those wondering...They asked for additional paperwork; my surgeon and primary cleared me been waiting since October to hear something back from Customs on this matter...nothing yet...STILL SHOWS pending review in the system. The hiring process was really fast for me in the beginning but has slowed down to a snail crawl...

San Francisco Area Applicants:
I just got a call from the Poly testing office from San Diego saying that our area no longer has a testing office. All SF area applicants will be referred to San Diego, Los Angeles or Seattle. I was told that some applicants chose to wait for a testing facility to open up in SF - which is an option - but can take up to 9 months - 1 year. SD office said they will be calling everyone in our area to give them the options - got a call from 619 area code. SD office also has availability as early as the week of January 22.
Finally, the process started moving again!!!
Good luck everyone!Last edited by karinka2002; 01-04-2018, 05:05 PM.

In this boat. Got my call on January 5th. My poly is on 01/24/18 in SD. I'm flying down for it. Anyone else choose to take it in SD?
-
annuitcoeptis, my poly is on Jan 22 - also in SD. When we pass (and I am not saying "IF", because that is not an option) we might end up at the academy at the same time.
-
karinka2002 and annuitcoeptis Hope you guys did well. I know that you can't disclose the exam content but are you able to share your general experience with the tester? Thanks! I got the call yesterday. They were able to schedule me to San Jose on 2/8/18

Just failed the poly, thought Id give some advice to others. First off, though a nice guy, my examineer bs'd throughout the entire exam to try and get me to make an admission. Telling me throughout multiple times that the likes of FBI, DEA, and PD's in Arizona, California, and other areas would not accept an applicant such as myself with very limited marijuana use 4 years ago. It was very hard not to laugh in his face as every PD along the west coast is far more liberal than CBP is with their "generous" acceptance of applicants with drug use from 3 years at least. For example, OC Sheriff says that there are virtually no auto disqualifiers, Washington PD's require no mj use in last 6 months and some PD's there actually allow previous history of sale of mj which is rare, Oregon usually requires a year from previous use of marijuana. Basically, follow the directions but dont buy anything the examiner says to get an admission or make you feel like they are your friend. Im not too disappointed as I strongly wanted to do PD/SO but CBP pay was more appealing. At least this way the choice was made for me and I cant say I made the wrong choice. Good luck all, even though I failed the poly it was very easy, even having to do redos on the section I failed I was only there 3 hours. Very big improvement from what I read it was like before.

That sucks one of my fears; I told the truth on my BI; and will tell the truth on my Poly but know I will have a reaction because I feel guilt and like I'm being judged...which is a natural reaction even when telling the truth. Goodluck on your next endeavor; thanks for sharing

I didnt sign an NDA that I recall just permission forms that say I agree to take the poly. The questions are very simple and defined for you before asking. Have you commited a serious crime against person, serious crime against property, have you supported terrorism, are you hiding any foreign contacts, would anyone say you dont work well in a team, have you ever obtained a grade in school (college only) dishonestly, do you intend to asnwer the security questions honestly? Thats literally every question besides control questions. He'll go over crimes against person for example as being murder, rape, domestic violence, kidnapping, ect... but he will only ask have you commited a serious crime against person. So like I said, its actually a very quick process compared to what I was expecting. Make sure you dont make the same mistake I did, dont just feel like you should tell them crimes. They can modify the question and looking back if I told him more about the guilt I was feeling which was unrelated to a serious crime, he could have modified the question and I could have passed. So again, its very important, be aware of what youre feeling and thinking when you answer a question and tell them everything whether its related or not. Good luck

And mj use isnt a disqualifying factor as long as it was 3 or more years ago GNg, so dont worry. Again, my examiner was lying to me making me think that CBP was the only agency that would take me with my prior drug use. I guess he presumed I hadnt yet looked into other departments and agencies, which he was wrong about. Look out for things like that and other psychology tricks he tried. I wouldnt recommend lying but definitely be careful with any verbal slip ups that would make you look bad and DEFINITELY dont feel you should make something up to try and pass a question.
-
Thank you so much for your insight, it sounds like they fail or pass you based on your mental and physical reaction measured by the machine. The worst crime I have done was got into trouble in high school and now I don't know if I should open it up to them even though it will not be asked about.

The only LESO I'm aware of are a class of FPS security specialists named Law Enforcement Security Officers. They provide security and some law enforcement functions on goverment properties.
Some CBPOs work alongside FPS on occasion, but they're different jobs in different agencies.

Just had my SI an hour ago. As expected, I knew how I could have performed better as soon as I left the interview. My nervousness did so much trouble to my mind. I feel so lack of confidence now. Anyone experienced the same who can provide some feedback?17-10 CBPO Timeline SFO GS-5/7

My polygraph examiner said the pass rate for the SI is nearly 100%. They need people so they are passing pretty much everybody. If you fail it, you probably really really shouldnt have this job.
-
It's good to hear that. I actually received my result as passed only 24 hours after the interview. Now I'm getting more nervous as the polygraph coming next. I naturally get nervous when doing any interview. I also get emotional when someone accuse me for wrong doing just like how many people mentioned in their experience with the polygraph conductor.

I just received a call today to do a continued (second) Poly on Jan 23rd. Should I be worried? I took the initial one on Nov 29th. Has this happened to anyone?
