manofsteel73 mine was like a basic job interview. Took about a half hour.

Mine was a few weeks ago (passed) in Kentucky. You should expect it to take about 30 minutes to an hour, but it depends on how long you have to wait. If they can at the time, then they take your fingerprints electronically. The interview is structured and you answer behavioral questions. Really can't say much more than that.

I think this link is a little outdated, but you need to just be relaxed, think completely before answering and use common sense. Remember, the agency cares about customer service. Good luck.

Steph631_ county25 thank you both. Did you bring a copy of your resume with you or just show up with what the email tells you to bring?

Just bring what it says, such as an I.D. or Driver's License. I brought a copy of the e-mail that scheduled the S.I. but they weren't interested in it. The email says to dress business casual, but I would recommend a suit or at least a button up / tie and slacks, my opinion of course. If you have any other questions you can private message me.

  • Checked CASS this morning, apparently I passed my Background Investigation (weird, I never talked to anyone about it)
According to CASS, I'm still waiting on the Medical Exam & Drug Screening *shrug*
According to the mobile app, I'm still waiting on the Background Investigation and the Drug Test.
    Huh?

3nf0rc3r That's awesome man good luck out there. Hopefully I'll be joining you with an EOD date in December as well. Funny thing is my BI showed as passed on CASS and yesterday I got a call from an investigator to meet and do the security interview tomorrow, so I'm hoping that doesn't hold me up.

      What happened?

  • I have seen a lot of candidates complain about failing the polygraph. I am an officer in the military and have never committed a crime in my life or even been arrested and I still failed the polygraph. Does anybody have a phone number where we can call and put a complain?

It's official. My application from CAS was already remove. I emailed the hiring process department and answer by saying the decision is final. The polygraph doesn't work. It truly depends if the examiner wants to pass you or not.

  • So I just took the exam, any idea why the study guide includes math and writing but the actual exam was only logic?

Hmm...I took the exam in the first week of June and it had math on it. Are you sure you didn't take the Border Patrol Agent exam?

Are you sure it was only logical reasoning? I took mine in August and it did have math and writing in it.

  • So someone mentioned the Entrance Exam possibly not having math this time around can anyone who has taken it recently confirm that. I take mine next month and want to be prepared

Depends on where you are working and what they hire you on as.

For example, I got hired on as a 9 making 57318. The year after 65014 and then 77926

      https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-over.../html/SEA.aspx

Can people on this forum not do their own research. I feel like the majority of posts can be googled in a min or so. This is a skill you need to work any leo job lol

The last numbers I've seen has the average CBPO making about 9.7K in OT. Overtime availability though is very port specific. Some ports have lots of overtime built in, and many don't have much at all.

I'm a current local LEO for 3 years and was 8 years military law enforcement before that. I've looked up the GS scales, with locality (Chicago metro), and ot pay, and so on and so on. But I was looking for a little more info of what those figures would be in real life. I'm making very good money now and would like to know how long would it take me to back to six figures. Is it true that cbpo journeyman to GS-12 without being a boss in 4 years?

and Mr FatMan, I'm going to let that jive comment slide. Only because I give the same advice to some. But there is no need for that.

Well seeing as they literally have the pay grade increases listed on both the CBP website and their job posting on USAJOBs.

      Taken from the USAJOBs posting

This is a career ladder position with a grade level progression of GS-9, GS-11, and GS-12. You will be eligible for a promotion to the next higher grade level (without re-applying) once you successfully complete 52 weeks in each grade level (with supervisor approval). For example you could:

      start as a CBPO in December 2017 as a GS-9 and make $49,765 - $94,765 per year*
be promoted in December 2018 to GS-11 and make $60,210 - $105,210 per year*
be promoted in December 2019 to GS-12 and make $72,168 - $117,168 per year*

Chicago Metro! In the Metro area as well but not law enforcement currently yet.

  • From what I've been hearing the figures listed on USAJobs and CBP.gov are pretty true to the real world numbers, minus locality, OT and diff. If you have no life you're eligible for up to $45k of OT a year once you complete your training period. Based on the policy my Port has, which I believe is CBP wide but don't quote me, you will be working OT. How much is up to you, sounds like you either volunteer for however much you want or get mandated if you're the bottom OT earner. And yes, if you keep your nose clean and aren't a tool you're pretty much guaranteed GS12 if you put the time in.

I put in Houlton Maine, for the sake of saving a ton money. So if I go up there, I know I'll have no life for a while.

  • Thanks a bunch guys and gals.

    • Overtime availability is very much port specific and many ports aren't going to support the upper end of those salary scales and a 45K cap...at least not easily.
Probably, that situation resides within more ports currently than under the old 35K cap...since no additional money was added in to the overall system. That additional cap money just gets shifted from somewhere/someone else.

      • Curious if anyone else can actually confirm this but I failed my CBP poly, and checking the mobile app it now says pending fail but also says the same for my BP app as well and I never took one with them. I was under the impression each one had their own, seeing as though the email stated it was only for the CBPO position.

They both fall under CBP. If you fail one for CBPO, it also counts as a fail for BPA.

      • How long ago did you test?

        • Hey folks, like many
Of you I am hopeful applicant,(for the third time). I have a couple questions. For those who qualified for GS9. Do you start off GS 9 step 3? The reason I ask is because those who qualify for GS 7 usually start at step 9 or 10. Which is higher than GS 9 step 1. 2nd question, for those who chose a port with the 25% incentive. Do you start receiving that on day one or after you complete the academy? You can respond privately, if thats more comfortably. I have the last two steps in this process, pray for me. Good Luck and God Bless.

Many of those qualifying as GS-07 and GS-09 levels are current/former federal employees. I would bet that most of those stepped-up salaries shown are the result of adjusting towards prior federal pay.
My guess would be that things like the 25% incentives start on hiring day one. That's the usual norm for things.

From what I was told by the hiring specialists, you receive the incentive on day one (EOD) and receive it each year thereafter on the anniversary of your EOD.
