Does anyone here work up north? I got picked up for International Falls, MN, I prefer the cold over the heat and the cost of living up there seems really cheap.

If we ever get back to FLETC I'll be in Vermont, that count as up north? You got lucky, northern border ports are few and far between these days. I swear half my class in going to San Yasidro LOL. -
Luckily I got Blaine since it seems to be a bigger northern port. Expensive to live up there but ya got to deal with it I guess.
One of the other officers from my current agency got SY as well.
Is FLETC closed right now because of the hurricane? -
Well I got picked up as a GS9, I don't know if that makes a difference or not, it was different post than the GS 5-7 one, although im waiting on my poly to be scheduled, so who knows when Ill finally make it up there -
I picked Blaine, WA as it is the closes one so far that i can work at. I wish Seattle will come up on the next announcement.
fathitman are you awaiting FLETC?
I just had my SI today in Seattle then they did a fingerprint after the interview. Is the fingerprint a good sign that i pass or is it a standard procedure?Last edited by keifehr; 09-19-2017, 04:15 PM.

i failed the step test part I went 2:58 and I messed up the cadence so bad I just stopped. And they send it 6 weeks after you send the request saying you would like another try.Comment

I had LASIK surgery for my eyes, I'm wondering if I'll be asked for more info on it? I know that normally when you have a condition you're asked for extra review on that issue (such as seeing a specialist), will it be the same for this?Comment
-
When I asked I was told if you get Lasik you can't accept the offer until 6 months after surgery date and you should re-apply. Something about making sure it heals, don't want to get OC'd etc. Once you get in it doesn't matter as I understand. -
It's actually not a automatic DQ if you get lasik. I have applied to multiple agencies and I'm almost finished with most of them and I have had lasik done. They would have DQ me a long time ago if it wasn't acceptable. Keep your head up if they ask for more information just hand it to them -
I didn't have eye surgery but I did have back surgery two years ago; my record stated; "Restrictions discussed with Patient" for that reason additional documentation was required to lift the restrictions. THANKFULLY, my surgeon is writing a letter to lift my restrictions my medical is pending due to this I will let you know what the turn out is

Spoke with FLETC this morning and today is the staff's first day back since Hurricane Irma. I was told my academy, class 434, which begins November 9, could be delayed until December. They aren't sure yet though.Comment
-
Huh I'm in class 433 starts Nov 2nd and haven't heard anything... I wonder if i could get pushed back too. That would be one long pre-academy. -
This is common for the FLETC getting pushed back.
My prior agency I worked for them for 7 months before going to GLYNCO due to the shutdown that happened right before I got hired.
Well at least you will get plenty of time to learn the stuff at pre-academy and probation should still be passing by as the time goes on. -
Wait so if we stay in pre-academy longer it will make probation shorter? I like the sound of that.

About a month ago I went take my poly. I was told that I was having trouble with the serious crime question. Never got in trouble before. The examiner told me that I might have to retest but it is up to QC. I still haven't received my poly results but today I received a call to go do my drug screen tomorrow. I don't know what to think because I never got my poly results back. Anyone had this experience before ?Comment

On the CBP CASS for both BI and SI it says "Not applicable" for me. Does it say this for anyone else? I applied to 2 announcements, 17-9 Direct hire and 17-9 (None direct). This only appears under the direct hire application ID.Comment

I have a question about the medical portion of my applications. I have applications in for both CBPO and BPA, my VA doctor claimed I couldn't do some of the things required for the positions because he grossly misinterpreted the activity descriptions. I'm assuming that the medical review for both positions will come back negatively because of what he had to say. Is there an appeal process that would allow me to have a second opinion? I've passed my PFT's, SI's, the backgrounds will be completed soon and there shouldn't be any problem with those because I currently have a clearance. I'm just a little freaked out about how the medical review will come back, any advice?Comment

Hi guys, just need some feedback if you can kindly comment. For those who had their SI done.
i just had my SI and after the interview they had me do fingerprint. Is that a good sign for passing or its standard procedure?
i thought i did good during the interview.
ThanksLast edited by keifehr; 09-19-2017, 05:34 PM.Comment

They collect fingerprints at the SI, so if you move forward, then the background investigator has them.
Good luck in your process moving forward! Which region did you apply to?Comment

Glad to hear you passed. I applied to 17-8 and in the same part of the process as you. Waiting to hear from a background investigator/polygraph. I also applied to Blaine, WA. Currently in Ohio, though.
I've heard mixed info. regarding the polygraph, and it truly depends on the person administering the test. I've had several polygraphs in the past (none for feds) and I did fine. The biggest thing is to not overthink, be upfront about everything, hopefully you added many details to your background packet explaining anything and everything. Polygraph will be anywhere from 2 hours to 6 hours with a break/lunch...if it goes on all day.
At my SI they did my fingerprints first, then did my interview. Everyone there was super informative but "aren't allowed" or supposed to tell a person if they passed or not, since that comes down to the hiring center, but some SI adminiatrators may "hint" on how a person did, in their opinion.
If things go well for both of us, maybe I will see you in Blaine or FLETC. Best of luck!
