I really don't know how often JFK comes out. If I was starting over I would apply for a NY location just to start the process and reply when JFK comes out.

Albany is a rather small port...15 Officers or so and most of their "new" people come in as transfers from Champlain.

That's not to say there are no street hires into Albany but they'd be the rare minority.

Yes- I reapplied for JFK in September 2015. I've been in scheduling since March. I graduated from Fletc in April. I'm in post academy now.

Did you contact the scheduling unit to see what's the hold up?

Many times. They told me to be patient and I'm on the applicant waiting list.

                    • Grade question: USAJobs said GS-07 accepted, but initial letter said GS05; heard that sometimes they bump you up for final acceptance, or immediately upon graduating FLETC. Fully qualify for 7- not sure whether to "hope" for 7 soon before/after FLETC or ? ANybody able to shed a little light on this? I assume arguing the grade with the gov't issuing the initial acceptance is pointless.

At this moment, there are no northern border ports that require any sort of fluency in French or any sort of French language training as part of the job.

French language training gets discussed every once in a while but it has yet to gain any meaningful traction within the agency. I don't see the overall disinterest in providing French training within the agency as changing any time soon.

FWIW, NYS Senator Chuck Schumer was pushing for French language training last year specific to North Country NY ports.

I haven't seen where there's been any real follow through or serious commitment from Schumer to bring CBP French language training to fruition. I also haven't seen any real effort or desire on the part of CBP to provide any French language training based on Schumer's tepid support for it,.
