Hey just wanted to clarify...I know cbp officers are federal law enforcement officers, but do they have full police powers?... Being that they're pretty much limited to the duties of their job more or less..

I have had plenty of family and friends go thru FLETC and they told me when I get there BRING YOUR CAR.....Imagine being on a military base stuck at the barracks on the weekends or being on a college campus without one...that's how it was broken down to me....hope that helps

I suppose that depends on how one defines full police powers. Many states give full or limited "police powers" to CBPOs.

Typically, CBPOs don't engage in enforcing much state and local laws. Typically, most CBPOs spend far more time on duty enforcing administrative, regulatory and compliance law and regulation than they do enforcing the full range of "Police powers". Typically, off-duty means do nothing beyond being a good witness.

Some ports are more "law enforcement" orientated than others. Typically, southern border land ports are the most "LE" minded of the ports. Typically, airports are the least "LE" oriented of the ports.

I would say that if you're an applicant and you want to run and gun and engage in a full range of law enforcement activities and situations, CBP probably isn't for you. Border Patrol might give you a better fit as far as playing hide and seek in the desert with illegal aliens and criminal smugglers, but even they don't often do typical "cop" work. If that's what you're looking for you might want to look elsewhere.

On the other hand, if you can live with doing niche law enforcement, not being overly stimulated and making 90-100K or more in most ports and situations as a GS-12, OFO isn't a bad gig.

I'll second bringing the car. There's nothing like having the ability to head to Savannah or Jacksonville when you need to blow off steam. Even being able to run to Walmart or Target when you want is a godsend.

It will need to be registered when it's first brought on base, but I don't believe that there's any fees involved.

No on the permit but everyone that doesn't have a car wish they did.

Also, guests aren't allowed here anymore so that's kinda sucked.

Ditto. Mine is tomorrow. I can tell you just be honest. That being said having looked up the kinda questions asked I intend to explain anything that comes to mind on every question. I will be beyond honest. No "omissions" just nonstop confessional.

Gonna try to sleep but I know I will be dumb nervous. Gonna get there on time and such.TBH I think I psyched myself out with reading negative poly experiences but I did learn to be open, strong and clear.

I suppose I can post an update on the result tomorrow.

Someone tried bringing in a guest with terrorist ties back in december...So from now on, guests are only allowed from 12:30 to 3pm on graduation day...and if your guest is not a US citizen he/she will require to submit to a background check weeks before graduation...
