I don't get it, what did they advise you on?

    • Man, I think I didn't do too well on the VBT. I kept repeating myself and I jumbled my words up. For those who took the test, did any of you all feel the same? Sorry about the same redundant question.

Same here, I forgot to send that form myself, but yeah it was there in the pre-employment booklet. Don't sweat it to much an keep on trucking. Best of luck in your process!

Yeah man I felt the same. It was very weird. I would rather have a real interview than this. I don't think its possible not to be nervous and stuff because you can't really prepare for this kind of "interview". I hope we all did good in it.Good luck man you have a similar time line with me!

You were not too specific, but i think even if its about something bad, signing and returning an "acknowledgement" letter is a good thing. If its what im thinking of, its better than a letter that says f-you thanks for trying out. Anytime you get to return something that means youre still in the game.

I just saw on usa jobs that there is an oppening for cbp officer with several duty stations available. "http://jobsearch.usajobs.gov/getjob.asp?JobID=77105284&brd=3876&AVSDM=2008%2D11 %2D03+15%3A23%3A22&q=cbp+officer&sort=rv&vw=d&Logo =0&FedPub=Y&FedEmp=N&SUBMIT1.x=62&SUBMIT1.y=7&ss=0 &TabNum=2&rc=2"
My question is I really want to get South Texas Rio Grande Valley area but i dont see it on the list should i still apply and start the process and take the test. Or what do you recommend? Can you guys check the link and see if south texas is on there because I see something that says TX many vacancies but i dont know if it means south. thanks for all the help

What you're looking for is the following:

GEO: 266 Texas - All Other Southwest Border Locations (includes but not limited to Brownsville, Del Rio, Eagle Pass, Pharr, Progreso, Rio Grande City and Roma).

I'm still fairly new to this process but you could wait for that location to open or you could take another "acceptable" location that you are willing to work at and if somewhere down the line your first choice opens up you could switch to that location. Although, if you were granted a T.O. you would have to decline that in order to take a new location (and thus wait for another T.O. for that location before continuing. Lastly, its more complicated if you already received an EOD as I believe you would need to either resign and start anew or wait until your probation period is over before switching GEO's (I believe that is two years).

I defer to the resident experts to confirm this though.

As far as current posts for Texas, I see: Presidio, TX and Western Texas/New Mexico (277- includes but not limited to El Paso, Fabes, and the state of New Mexico).

If you are in no HURRY to get a job I would say just wait until the next announcement that has the Geo Location you want. Once you EOD on which ever location you applied for, it is almost if not impossible, to change locations . Now, as Merlin has stated previously, it is easier to transfer from within the same Geo Location (if you take Texas) and if it is a straight body for body swap... Which would mean you finding someone from the port you want to go, wanting to go to your port...
In any case if you have a question as to where exactly the Texas code in this one are included, you should call the MHC number in the announcement and ask... don't leave a message, just call and call until you talk to someone.
                    Good Luck

It's easier to move within the same field office. Texas has three:
                        El Paso
                        Houston
                        Laredo

I'm guessing that Laredo covers where BP wants to go.

Now as far as applying now and then looking to switch...might be worth it, might not.

                        • I posted this story in the BPA thread, but I thought it might warrant being said in here as well.

For anyone who was at least halfway studious coming out of high school, some of us take placement exams for college. These exams are meant to see what level of writing classes one is to start out with in college. I tested at the sophmore level entering my university, and they credited me with 6 units to account for it as such.

I got a call on Monday from the staffing unit telling me that they could not qualify me at the 7 level paygrade because over 10% of my completed classes were of pass/fail nature. This couldn't be right, I checked my transcripts beforehand to make sure, and I was way in the clear. When I asked him what classes he was looking at, he told me that the 6 units I got from AP (Advanced Placement) was considered pass/fail. I told him that wasn't a class. That was a test that the university accepted as placing me in a higher writing level class. After going around and around for 5 minutes trying to explain to the guy that it wasn't a class (but they had to count it as something), I was able to qualify based on upper level course specialization classes.

The bottom line is this: Careful about seeing if AP credits are listed on your transcript. Some don't even list them, they just say 'He tested out and we gave him credit' but the nature of the way it was written on my transcript made it look like it was an actual course I took. I called up my university's registrar and academic advising offices after getting off of the phone with CBP and they both held the opinion that it wasn't a class (hence why there wasn't an actual grade appended to the units). Lesson learned indeed!

                          "And you are kinda intoxicated."

                            • How difficult (if at all possible) is it to get a deferment for the final job offer/academy. I am getting married in August and would like to wait until after then to accept the job (because I will have to move 5 hours away).

I have seen this question asked before and it seems like your chances are slim. I also feel like I remember reading somewhere that if you had a vacation planned, flights booked and all that, you could defer it if you could prove the flights were in stone and all that j***. Hopefully someone else can chime in.
