Do you know what would happen next, should I be expecting a letter soon saying I need to go see a specialist?
I cannot say exactly what will happen with your case. Judging from the responses of a large number of applicants that have had vission issues and subsequently had corrective surgery, you should receive a Notice Of Personnel Action (NOPA). In it is explained a detailed process to complete, records and doctors reports, as well as further required testing. It is my belief that those having corrective surgery for an optomitry NOPA will be retested by a specialist at their own expense 90 days following the surgery. NOPAs are not uncommon and as long as you follow the simple instructions there is usually no reson to be found not medically cleared because of corrective eye surgery.

    • Hey guys I got my TO for Michigan about a month ago. I was immediatly contacted for my Medical which was done the week of Oct 10. I received a letter today to begin my background stating an agent will be at my residence on 11/07. I have never taken the VBT. So, for those of you who are under the impression you can't start the process until a VBT is done your wrong. I'm sure thats my next step but I haven't been sceduled for it yet.

You got a letter that a BI was coming to your house but not a phone call from him or anything?
        "Officer, you are kinda hot."

        "And you are kinda intoxicated."

        • Yeah,
It's a letter stating we will be meeting on 11/07 and to contact him to finalize details. I found that strange too considering most others say the investigator calls. The other thing I find strange is that everything is getting done so fast. I've had the TO, medical, and background now all within a month.

            Interesting.

To be fair, I'd say that what it looks like from all of the applicants that post here, the movement has been on the quicker side, generally speaking. The bulk of the August testers have gotten their TOs within a month plus, and have completed at least some other portion of pre-employment (whether it's med/fit or some other thing). Maybe this is on par, I don't really know how to gauge the speed of movement in these apps because it seems like one month can see a ton of movement and another can be dead slow.

I wish I fit into that category. I tested in late July (practically August) and still have not hear anything other than several NORs. I figured since VT was listed as a "Critical Need Location" there would be quicker movement; I guess I was wrong.

From what I've been reading it seems like more West Coast applicants, myself included, are getting processed expeditiously. I have my VBT for NOV 12, I tested 08/18/08, here in AZ. I've completed my MED & FIT test on the same day about 2 weeks ago.

I think that is good for you guys and I hope the progress keeps up; I just hope they don't forget about us Northeastern applicants.

                      • They do that with the phone number because some people feel the need to post things like phone numbers on the internet... and others see it and think that it is ok to start cold calling looking for info on their file...

                            • Anybody have their geo pref for Washington? Mine is Washington-Northern border, and so far it seems like the pace is pretty good. Pre-qualifications are all completed, med/fit done, and now I have my VBT in early November. Let me know if anyone else is going for that area..I tested on July 26th

                              • I was under the impression that once people received their T.O. that the basic tests are all completed within 2 months anyway. I haven't really heard of anyone waiting a really long time, for the most part. There are always your exceptions, but I don't see anything that would be considered expedited here as far as the basic tests go.

All of my tests were done within a 2 month span. Even the NOPA I received was cleared within that time frame. Its the background investigation that seems to bog most applications down. I have a clean background and have completed all the other steps and have met with my B.I. about 2 months ago, and he confirmed my file was complete and sent off for adjudication. This step is taking as long as all the others combined.

point of it all is dont get your heads down or go nuts because all your other steps were completed fast and then you get to your BI and it takes a while. Like I said theres always extremes like people getting cleared within a month of their BI and others waiting a year or more, but from my personal experience and a few others I know who are on my timeline, a normal wait would fall b/w 2 1/2-4 months from the time of meeting with your investigator.
