        • It was really intense. I opened up and said the few things I've done wrong (not that bad). No crimes or anything like that. Pretty much a clean guy with a boyhood.

I'm so happy. He said he still needed it to go to QC and I would hear again in about 4 weeks.

Just be 100% honest could be my best advice.

                  • Is Florida an area where Spanish is required? I have seen people say it is only for SWB but I was pretty sure Florida was included in that.

Spanish is required for duty locations along the Southwest Border, primarily in Southern California, New Mexico, Arizona, Western and Southwestern Texas, as well as Miami, Florida; and Puerto Rico.

Miami would be the only port in Florida with a Spanish req? Wow that surprises me. Thank you.

I am trying to see if it is possible for me to go back and get them to bump me up to GS-7. I called MHC and they said that I should go back and apply again and the two applications would merge. They said this would not slow down my process.

Or perhaps after I get on board and start working at port-of-entry, I could apply to have my salary bumped up? Thoughts?

If you want to be hired on a GS -07, then reapply for consideration as a 07 applicant. I can't see the agency seeing any obligation or having any motivation to increase a person's salary post hire.

Just a heads up, the new rate, which began 2014, is 4.9% IF you are new to the federal system. I've don't a lot of research on why its so much all of the sudden, it's a long explanation. If you are not a new federal employee, it goes off the date you began your first employment. I can say, I was a bit surprised with my first few checks but it'll work out in the end. Good luck to all!!

                                Wow that's insane actually.

5% mandatory into a pension fund. I have a lot of experience and success investing, I am pretty sure I could make better use of that money in my IRA's. But, whatever. It's a good, fairly high paying job and the money is still mine in the end anyways. Just in my case would like a little more say in where the money goes and how it grows. I am probably in the minority though.
