New Port News (VA) VA beach, has anyone been offered that duty station? I appreciate everyone who's been answering these questions. I am just considering whether to just take the job and hope to transfer OR wait re-take the test and and get a duty station down in NC or SC. thanks everyone.

    Cheers
I can't tell you about the desirability of the job there, but I lived there when I was in the Navy. Like most places people complain about he area, but after learning what there is to do there my wife and I loved it. We would drive to the beach, drive to some cool regional and state parks. Go to the theater in Norfolk. You are only a few hours from great hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Busch Gardens is right there, Colonial Williamsburg, etc.... Feel free to PM me, but I would love to go there if it wasn't for my wife's job. We have talked about trying to go there if I can start at Dulles and then get my pay up in a few years so she can quit working. If I were you I would jump on it and count my blessings.

All things being equal, I do think the hardship rotation placement system should be implemented. Will it? Doubtful.
For the potential new hires, location is a big deal. Some people just want to stay wherever they get placed.

There should be a way out and the current paths are terrible.
Sure, that 12-4 will take that cut 9-whatever elsewhere, but that's how much he/she is willing to sacrifice to make that move.
I think more people would join if you could know your port upfront (like when you apply). There are lots of people with spouses that work and that limits their ability to move. jmho.

I took my VBT today also. Scheduled for 1000 and got out around 1400. They weren't even in the room for the VBT. I still found that thing weird but the extra instructions when you start, etc... helped put me at ease. The weirdest part was the recording of the structured interview. They told me to look at them and not the camera, but then one guy sat behind the camera, lol. I'm just glad it is done. FYI, if anyone remembers me posting about getting another persons VBT invitation, I called and e-mailed MN repeatedly until they told me they contacted him. He showed up and told me he just found out recently. Cool kid, I'm glad he was there :-)

Steph- did they give you a memorandum when you finished, about the pft2 requirements? Just curious. I'm sitting here converting mine to see the speed of the sprint and the run. FYI it's 9 mph and 5.22 mph (respectively) if my math is correct.

Does anyone know if the pft2 sprint and run are done indoors, outdoors or what? I usually run on a treadmill, but I like to practice like I'm going to play. Thanks.

I'm guessing that.would simply be too impractical.
Today's applicants aren't in the running (for the most part) for today's port openings. They're more or less penciled in for projected openings in 2015, 2016 and 2017. There is little ability to predict out that far in advance as to where people will ultimately be needed.
