Josh any recommendations about the Florida region? I just took the test on 17 Sept and got a score of 93. Would it be enough for Florida? I kept reading that Florida is high demand and very competitive. Also, I've been reading of other receiving an email today regarding TSL and being able to log in CASS...I haven't received anything. I'm afraid I didn't meet the cutoff score. Uhhh..."Ima get an ucler with this waiting game"

By the way...good luck with everything.

The only info I can give regarding fl is from what I've learned on this forum and my own experience with the process so far. The fl region doesn't need as many officers like the swb does. So for that reason, the process does take a lot longer. As for your score, it all depends on the need at the time. I've read on here that people have received a TSL with a 93. It took me 5 months to get my TSL, it was frustrating at the time reading that others were getting theirs and I wasn't. To me though, with a wife and young son, it is all worth the wait. So if you want the process to possibly go faster for you, you can request a Geo change. Once you get your tsl you won't be able to change. If your score isn't high enough, they will send you and email recommending a Geo change.

      • Unless you need to take the poly a second time, you should be hearing from your BI in about 2-3 weeks.

I aced teh hardest training program in the military. It lasts almost 2 years. I did so well I was asked to stay as an instructor. My family understands commitment, as former military and as a current night shift nurse, who by the way spent half the summer working 84 and 96 hour weeks, my family can deal. If I don't have more than I think I can handle on weekends there is no reason not to go home. Why is everyone freaking out because I asked about the weekend schedule so I can figure out if I can drive home to my family. When qualifying then working in the Nuclear Navy and then as an Instructor in The Nuclear Navy I would drive 6-9 hours each way on weekends to see my irl friend, later fiancee, and now wife. I am very well aware of my capabilities. I appreciate the people that are being constructive, but those that are very negative or this last post stating they wouldn't hire or promote me are ridiculous. What is wrong with you people? FYI, almost every time I have switched jobs I have been promoted in less than a year. I have been at my current employer (John's Hopkins Medicine btw) for less than 6 months and now work as team leader half my shifts. they also use me as a consultant (at 170% of my normal rate, whenever they upgrade one of their hospitals clinical computer systems in a medical or emergency medicine area and have expressed an interest in continuing to do so into 2015 and 2016). Despite continued success in my field, I want to work in CBP. My last job as a Chef Engineer of 6 buildings included a building that is the NTC-C. I got to know some of the people and a bit about the job, the benefits, the fact that I can buy back my 8 years in the military, etc... and I am willing to take a SIGNIFICANT pay cut to do something I feel I will love doing. I miss serving my country and with previous Advanced CBR Defense training the cargo side of CBP seems like a good fit for me. So, if you wouldn't hire or promote me maybe I should begin to rethink whether or not I'll be a personality fit there,... maybe. Or maybe some of you need to use the forum to be helpful, stop before you make negative comments, and decide if your comment is phrased as helpful, or a bit of a negative busy body. Everyone have a great night.
Regardless if you believe it or not I am being helpful. You are also correct you should have left the other post up. You asked if it would be advisable to drive home for the weekends. You then stated that family is more important. Everything you posted above is great glad you did it. I will not speak to it because I didn't do it. However, you got at least two opinions from current Officers that did go through the CBP Academy and an opinion from a Manager. Your focus should be on your education for this career. It will only take one vehicle accident or vehicle malfunction to make you late returning to the academy that will not go over well at all. I will also point out that once you get to the academy if you plan on traveling further away than a specific distance you will have to speak to you class coordinator before you go.

Please keep in mind when hired to this job you are a probationary officer regardless of what you did in the past. You will not help yourself boasting of what you did in the past. You should be trying to make the impression that you are a serious officer and that you take your training seriously regardless of what it is or if you think it is worthwhile. You is hard to do that when you are leaving the training atmosphere every weekend to go home. The instructor cadre will be looking for the class to gel as a group again hard to do if your not there. They will also be looking for the stronger, squared away trainees to assist the trainees that are struggling, from the information you posted above, you would probably fit that description but if your not there it is hard to make connections and assist.

Your original post came off like you are treating this like a job to get a pay check and not a career choice. The fact that multiple people seem to have taken it that way should cause you to pause a bit.

Also I don't understand why people poke fun at other, when we are asking questions related to medical or to our future job. There is nothing called you cannot do it, you can do anything if you put your mind to it. The only time you cannot do it is when you give up, and tell yourself that. Everyone says a hard job, yes that is true. You cannot work for an organization such as the CBP, just because of the money. You have to do it because you love what your doing with a passion. You don't look at work as work, but as hobby that you love to do. That is why I applied to become an Agriculture Specialist with the CBP. I care about agriculture industry, and this a job I have always dream about. I didn't think I would have made it this fun, after passing my VBT. I am almost one-step closer to my dream job. I agree with you 100% SM3, and I like what you wrote down again : )

Its a shame to see some these officers, act the way they do over these discussion forum. This not representing the CBP agency for what it stands for. I want to see them act the same way to their colleagues in real life, lol.
Do you prefer truthful answers or should we just sugarcoat the answers? This is not an everyone gets an award for participating kind of career. CBP most certainly wants officers that will show commitment to the agency. The agency will expect night, weekends, mandatory overtime. Family time will suffer. That is representative of the agency. Would you prefer that I just say yeah go ahead and go home every weekend no one will care or bat an eye when that is not the reality or would you rather have the heads up that people will be watching and your professional reputation starts day one at the academy?

Just out of curiosity, why would you have to retake a test? Also, I've never undergone a poly test; how does it work?

I was told I have to finish cause when I first took it was a full day. I got burnt out. When you folks take the test make sure you eat. Also be honest. It is by far the worst part of this process. Good luck
