    • Not Medically Cleared

I received a not medically cleared last Friday, they ask that I get evaluated by an orthopedist and send in the report by Nov 11. The problem I have is that I live in Northern Maine and Orthopedist are limited up here. I am having trouble finding one that can evaluate me before my deadline. One of the Orthopedist I contacted advised that he has a PA-C that works under him and he could perform the evaluation and that he could sign off on it. Do you know if it is acceptable to see a PA-C to do the eval.

I was just about to post the same thing. Whatever your opinion on all of this, it's got nothing to do with getting a job with CBP or the application/training process. Please take the debate somewhere else. We've had two good questions/answers buried by this argument.

This is a perfect question to call the MHC Medical unit about. They'll be off today for Columbus day (does anyone but Feds and bankers get today off anymore? heh) The number should be in the NOPA, I had a question about my eyes when I got a NOPA and they were really helpful when I called. You can shoot an email over to them as well. They usually respond quckly to specific questions of this nature. Make sure to explain the remoteness of your location and the hardship travel to a Orthopedist would cause.

          Good luck.

You should be able to call the medical unit to ask specifics. I know that they can give you an extension if you are having trouble getting it done in the allotted time, I had to get one.

Not sure what your condition you have/had... but I will tell you what the MHC told me a couple months ago when I was found NOT MEDICALLY CLEARED. First, you need to call and talk to the Nurse in charge of your file... they are very friendly and overly-willing to help you. Secondly, with my condition (back/shoulder injury) I was treated by my family doctor and never had to see a specialist. So when I initially talked to the nurse in charge of my case she told me (that despite what the letter said) that I can have my family doctor write the letter... the worst that will happen is that they will send another letter requesting more information. My family doctor wrote two paragraphs on letter head... and they cleared me. In my opinion (for what that is worth?) the N.M.C. letter they send out is generic letter and tries to scare you into sending them as much information as possible so it is easier to make a decision. Also, they will extend the deadline at your request. Also, I spent $17 to overnight the letter and five weeks went by and I did not hear anything. I called the MHC and my nurse told me that they had yet to receive anything from me.... and she wanted me to re-fax the letter (which I did along with the signature card of the person who originally signed for it... to prove a point). Point being, when you mail in the letter... put delivery confirmation and also fax them a copy... this will definitely speed up the process. Lastly, CALL! CALL! CALL! keep in constant contact with these people…. It definitely speeds things up and its harder for them to loose your paperwork when they constantly have to keep looking at it.

PM me if you have any further questions.

Is comprehensive health part of the government? I received a call today to schedule my drug test. I wasn't going to answer because I didn't know the number and I figured I wouldn't receive a job related calls today.

Administration paperwork...and so you know what the job entails before the government spends thousand of dollars training a new hire for them to quit 3 days after returning to FLETC because they didn't know what exactly they would be doing.

The officer was justified in the shooting and will be cleared by the agency. Good shoot.

"This happened to a new CBP Officer that graduated August 2008. She qualified in July 2008.

She did everything right and she said that what she was trained on during the CBP Academy course saved her life. She was leaving work at Oakland and was using public transportation when she was assaulted. She was wearing a shirt over her uniform and had a pancake holster. The subject did not know she was a uniformed officer and carrying. "

For all the wanna-bes/has-beens or newbies this should clear the matter up. She was well within the UOF policy and still technically on duty (CBPOs are "on duty" while on their way to and from work.)

Haha I just reread my response, and that was an awfully long run-on sentence.

I believe Comprehnsive Health is the company that is contracted by the government to handle CBP health screenings. They probably do not have the day off because they are not actually a federal agency. Just my opinion.

Wow that's cool she lets you finish school. Basically you will walk out of college with a great job. Not many people can say that.
