A couple of things about HR-218/LEOSA...

1: HR-218(or as it's most correctly know as "the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act"(LEOSA)) is largely untested. Nobody knows how the courts will rule on it, for the most part.

    See:

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/htm...urgis16m0.html

"...In addition to Smith, four other members of the Iron Pigs who were with him at the bar face misdemeanor charges. All are charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. A conviction on the misdemeanor could result in up to one year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

They are: Scott Lazalde, 38, of Bellingham; James Rector, 44, of Ferndale, Whatcom County; Erik Pingel, 35, of Aurora, Colo.; and Seattle police Sgt. Dennis McCoy, 49, of Seattle. Lazalde and Rector are longtime members of U.S. Customs and Border Inspection and stationed in Blaine. Pingel is a firefighter."

Rector is a GS-14 assistant port director at/around Blaine, WA.

IMO, anyone relying on it is swimming in mostly uncharted waters.

2: Even if LEOSA flies, it only protects one from state/local charges involving carrying concealed. It does nothing for you in regards to federal charges, and it will not stop CBP from coming at you with administrative charges...including and quite probably, termination.
Avoiding jail-time but losing my job is not an option I personally want to live with, but maybe you have a different view.

So it's safe to say that examples like these are why CBP probably don't want you dabbling outside of company policy. It's better for them AND you to deal with in the long run.

Your medical and fit test were scheduled before you sent your packet back?

sent mine out 2 days ago.. it took me about 3 days to complete them.. it sucks being 35 and trying to remember all that stuff LOL.. out here in Cali it was hard finding a place that did not use the Livescan system for fingerprinting.. i had to pay 15 bucks per card at a small mom and pop place ..

They did the same thing with me too. I already had my Fit test on Wednesday.

All of the PDs around here do digital finger prints apparently. I was going to have to get them done the next county over until someone from MHC emailed me to let me know that I didn't have to do e-qip or fingerprints or any other IA stuff because I have been previously cleared from a different application.
I had the biggest problem getting damn prints from my town. They went digital a couple years ago and even though they still had all the kit to do ink prints (in case the machine went down) the officer didn't want to do them. We have a town ordinance that locals get prints for free for non offenders.

The officer on duty flatly stated he didn't feel like doing them. So I politely insisted. He just stared at me for a good minute then takes me into the back and gets out the ink. So I give him the cards CBP sends (3 or 4, forget how many.) and he says that they only need two so he's only doing two. He then gives me a five minute speech on how the state gets a copy, the feds get a copy, and there is no possible reason to want more cards.

Going on the general rule that telling off cops is a really bad idea I just stare at the guy without saying a word for what felt like another minute. Finally he says "well... I can see you're one of them detail freaks, so ok give me all the cards." He does the prints fine. Then when I'm done I go "ok... um how do I clean this off my hands." And he says "sorry out of paper towels" and just wants out of the room and goes into a locked door.

Looking back it's pretty f-ing funny. I'm standing there in the hall, dressed for work, with my hands covered with indelible ink. No idea what I would have done if another officer didn't come down the hall look at me and say "you need something?" I explain the situation and he just breaks out laughing. He was a really nice guy and led me into a janitor closet where they had that orange goop cleaner stuff that worked right away.

I actually think the cops in my town do a really good job. But I've gotta say I wasn't all that impressed with their fingerprinting guy.

                      • YIKES! That's quite a story you got there. I went to a USBP sector station and got them done for free (obviously). It was nice talking to a couple PAs that were around on light duty (injuries at FLETC I imagine, I didn't ask), and I got printed by one of the pretty HR specialists. It was a breeze...but your experience apparently was not!

Wow, pretty good movement then. What location is your TO for?

                            Holiday-off

Anything not a holiday- most probably NOT off.

Bush MIGHT grant you a Monday or Friday preceeding/following a holiday, if that holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday...but don't count on it.

                            • I'll be down at FLETC through all the major holidays (sucks to be me) and I was wondering if the dorms and the chow halls stay open on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day?

San Diego locations. As I've said previously, I'm kinda ahead of the game because IA already cleared me with a USBP application, and my medical exam has already carried over. So technically as of now I'm more than halfway through; All that's left on my end is the VBT and that's it.

My USBP application is just about done as well, I'm waiting to get scheduled for their fit test again (post-injury thing), but what's funny is that the scheduling unit said I was only scheduled for the CBPO test, when the nurse from the medical review unit said I should be in line to do both. I've contacted MHC about it but haven't gotten a response. Either way, there's a real possibility that I will have a choice of which job to go for within CBP.
