The biggest issue for me is not knowing if I will even get an offer or when the next steps will occur. This is troublesome because it is hard to plan your life out for the next 12 months or so. My wife and I have considered moving to NC however, this will depend on what happens with this position, and unfortunately, there is so much doubt with the app process.

Same here. I've put other stuff on hold (military training, work overseas, etc.) to make myself available for various steps in this process. If I had known, for example, that it would've taken more than two years to schedule my poly for the BPA, I'd have taken those active duty orders I was offered. Instead I've been pretty much unemployed going on 12 months.

My BI told me to get a job while I am waiting. I don't know if I should worry about this or no coz I'm almost at the end of the process and only waiting on adjudication decision.

Don't get me wrong, I work FT and fully expected the process to take a while. But if you are committed to this job and your specific GEO, there are many things that need to be put on hold while you are going through the process. If I get the job, sure it will all be worth it but if not, I am a little behind with back up plans.

I'd get a job. One, you don't know if you'll get the CBP position, and two, long gaps in employment history can't be good. Like others have said, it may take a long while. I'm sure CBP are expediting the hiring process for those whose geo preference is the SWB.

And never put all of your eggs in one basket.

EDIT-NYJ. You're soooooo lucky on thinking of moving to NC. DO IT! Preferably the triangle area or Charlotte. I'll be stuck here in Florida still for good while. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaate this state.

lol, I'm not dismayed. I've been applying for other fed jobs. Wasn't referred for USSS UD for the fifth time now. I've heard if you failed your poly with them, you're pretty much blacklisted from re-applying, though that's probably hearsay.To this day, I still don't know whether I passed the poly or not, and that was 3 years ago. Everything on my SF86 background packet was truthfully told, but issues regarding integrity portion had the examiner say he's going to let HQ make the final say. It's funny, because during the polygraph, he was very aggressive and mean, but afterwards, it was like we were buddies at a bar. He told me the medical was next, and not to screw around.

I also applied to the operations specialist position for the FBI, too. Seems to be an entry level clerical job, but I haven't heard anything back.

I look through USAjobs, and there aren't any jobs that I can get referred for.

Several of you applicants seemed dismayed about the process. So I have a double question for each of you:

Do you think it will get better after you come work for the government?
And
Why do you want to work for CBP?

1. I currently work for the government.
2. Rather get paid on the GS pay scale rather than SV.

My question for you is, why are you hanging out on CBP forums picking on applicants?

Hey fellow applicants, I took my VBT and the SI on May 27th, and I am still waiting on the results. I have not received an email yet regarding my BI or Poly, or like I already mentioned my VBT/SI results. Do you think these are signs that I didnt pass? Also I am currently In the Army National Guard and my MOS is infantry, I have a Secret Security clearance from the Army since I joined after graduating high school at 18 years old, do you think that will help in the Background Investigation process. Basically I'm 21 now, never had problems with the law, married and have a baby. I havent really had a solid job, only at a call center for like 15 months and then I quit and am going to college, just finished my first semester. I just got a new job 6 days ago, things are going very well. Do you think these unemployment gaps will affect me. I mean Ive been in the Guard since I got out of high school and never had trouble there. I need someone with clear knowledge of the BI and the adjudication process to elaborate on my situation. Future want2b CBPO , I haven't picked on anyone, but I can start with you . I feel it is the responsibility of senior government employees to tell the story straight so applicants like you can make an informed decision.

I actually post on several threads. If one third of USC's even knew how the government worked, it would force a change.

It'll come. The pattern as of late, if you get the SI after the VBT. You more than likely passed. Unless you bombed the interview.

I thought it was obvious why many of us want to work for the government regardless of the branch.

I can't really comment on that, since I'm not too familiar with what they are actually looking for, or what can hurt a person in the investigation process. I do however, know people who have had run in's with the law, been arrested, etc etc. That have made it through the BI process and are on their way to FLETC as we speak. You've been in school and military, if it were me, I'd say that's worthy of a PASS even with the gaps of unemployment. I really don't think you have much to worry about. As long as your credit is okay, and they may look into how you have supported yourself and family while not working.
