          A loud black one.
But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new guards for their future security.

For the intelectually challenged: If the government screws the people enough, it is the right and responsibility of the people to revolt and form a new government.

I don't disagree with any of this. Right now this is the norm. Questions come up, who ever is up to it attempts to take it on. It might be the correct information, and if it isn't they are typically corrected by someone who does know. No problem.

Everybody is new to the process at one time or another, so to them it's the first time they've asked and shouldn't be expected to sift through 160pages of questions, some of which the answers may be out of date.
This is what I'm talking about. Instead of going around in circles, if there was a spot where all of the general information was, it might significantly cut down on redundant questions. We don't expect people to look at 160 pages because it's too much information. Even getting people to search is a pain. If there was a somewhat organized place for the information, it could be answered better. The BPA thread has significantly less traffic, and that might be because they all go to the same place for their info (honorfirst). This isn't to benefit the question answerers as much as it helps the people looking for the information, but I do think it benefits both. I'm just pointing out (and yoda has done this in his previous post as well) that our system works, but it could be better.

This question proves my point very well.

Anyways, maybe this is a never ending thread (which is bad, because big threads make the servers work harder on search queries, forcing the forums use to sieze up under peak stress), but maybe an idea for the next thread.

EDIT: It occurred to me to check the start dates for both CBP threads, and this one has been open two years longer. I think my point still stands, but I guess that example doesn't work as well.

            • With all due respect, I don't even think we should be discussing this, just like I don't think it's right to make people feel bad for asking a question that was asked before; after all, we are all here to help one another. A forum in which people feel hesitant, intimidated or scared to ask something because they fear they may be ridiculed as a result, is not doing itself a service. We can all benefit from all sorts of questions, yes, even those that we have heard and/or answered before. No one is forced to respond to anything he or she does not want to, so let's not get so upset over insignificant things and focus on the reason for this forum, that is, to discuss everything pertaining to being or becoming a CBP officer.

              • I'm not making fun of anyone, I'm using his post as an example of how my idea works. He should be posting his questions at any point in time regardless of if it's been answered since that's pretty much how the thread works to begin with.

So the BPAs have honorfirst as a decent source of information; does anyone know of a similar site that could be equated to the CBPO position?

I took the test in March of 2008, scored a 97 without veterans points, and am currently awating to meet with a background investigator and also waiting to see which level I will be qualified at. I received a letter on Monday requesting the verification of my driver's license, since it recently expired because I just turned 21. I overnighted the form back to MHC and yesterday CASS showed my background as..."Your case is in the security office."

                    • I read in a previous entry that the initial geographic location you choose may not be the one you're actually offered when you're hired. Is this true?

                      • Well here we go... basically another week in the books... it is actually going faster and faster the more things we do. Like this week was firearms, and arrest tactics.(fun stuff). And right now, the weather is perfect for being here.. may need a jacket in the AM but in the afternoon, you just cant beat it. Not much else to tell but after the first 2 weeks it kind of picks up a little bit, not to sure what to expect next... all i know is that time is starting to fly by.

Good luck to all those who seem to be serious about this job, and serious about asking questions on this forum, it helped me before i got the job and I hope I am returning the favor as much as possible, and I will continue giving updates. FLETC does have its time for jokes, and play time.... but if you arent serious.... expect to get called on it... and expect to have to answer to a higher up. F.Y.I.... 2 people from another class went home last week because of stupidity, and thinking something wasnt serious enough for them.

                        • Hi all. Been lurkin for a bit and finally decided to sign up. I tested out August 13th for the San diego port. Got my NOR a few weeks later with a 90 ranking.

My question is when the port decides to hire more people, will someone like myself with a 90 ranking be taken over someone who has tested before me but is at the same point. Not to say that I want to go ahead of someone who did the work but didnt get a higher score, but I want a little bit better understanding of how this whole thing works...

                            • FYI for Tampa Area

Had my VBT today in Tampa, FL. Spoke with the port director and a CBP supervisor. They are hiring for Tampa positions. I told them I would only accept from the Tampa Bay area as I have a good job already. They stated it shouldn't be a problem to get Tampa as there is an Airport/Seaport etc.

                              Just FYI for anyone interested.
