I recall there being at one time something being bounced around about compensating canine officers for time spent getting ready for work, putting together training aids for the dog, etc.

Perhaps it fell of the scope, many things do.

Yep, I also heard that too, but nothing happened.

        Good luck bud...
I know this question seems like it has an obvious answer but does anyone know how long it usually takes to issue T.O.s? Like I said before, when I talked with MHC they said they had already started issuing T.O.s before I changed my GEO to Eastern Texas.

The obvious answer I believe would be: whenever they need to start processing more applicants for that GEO...

And one other thing, what is the deal about people having to have Lasik in order to be medically acceptable? I thought that you would pass the medical if you're vision was correctable with contacts/glasses? Is the 20/100 vision w/o correction required for both CBPO and CBPA applicants?

I am borderline 20/100 w/o correction...if I try hard I can see the appropriate letters for 20/100 on the eye chart... But then I'm guessing that might still be an issue.

        Thanks

20/100 correctable to 20/20 is the worst vision you can have. I was DQ'd from the Border Patrol process for having 20/800.

I had Lasik before I applied for the CBPO spot. I would seriously consider the surgery since the results are usually very good. I'm usually 20/15, and on a really good day, I can read the 20/13 line on the chart.

Theoretically though, if I have 20/100 I should pass... Do they test each eye individually or both together... Regardless I am going to look into LASIK tomorrow. Any idea on how much it costs? Thanks.

here's my advice on LASIK... do not, and I repeat, do not bargain hunt when it comes to your eyes. Specially when you will have to live with the results, do your research, check the doctors, try to get in touch with their patients to see results. Now, if you're near the limit, as to uncorrected, I would consider it. Keep in mind that it will delay your medical clearance around 90 days to see the results of the surgery. Then again, you still are waiting on a TO so... the sooner, the better

              Good Luck

              • I'll second Yoda. Lasik is not something you want do on the cheap. It's also something you'll want done by someone who specializes in Lasik large scale and who's greatly experienced. Most of the people I know of who have problems are the ones who went cheap and/or rural.

Generally, it's not something where you'll find the best results by getting it done at the local mall in Aberdeen, SD. Check out large clinics in major urban areas who do thousands of surgeries a year. Find someone with an excellent reputation and go there. If it means burrning a few days vacation time so be it.
Your eyes are not something to risk. Spend the money needed. Eat mac and cheese for 6 months if you have to. Become a freegan and urban forage(dive in them dumpsters!), if you need. Your eyes will thank you in the end.

                • Yoda and Merlin are right. I spent about $3500 total. That was almost 3 years ago, so the price may have come down for a quality procedure. Do it right, or don't do it at all. If they screw it up, then you may never get a job.

                      I don't.

Why would an applicant need the email for IA?

Most of the places I quoted down here in Pensacola/Florida Panhandle are charging between 4 and 5 thousand...but then they are using the MKT procedure not the new one with interlace.... maybe I should look into a bigger city.
