Thanks shawal16, I appreciate the quick response.

So does that mean a TO would show up on application manager before CASS?

I have not known TOs to show up on application manager. I would say look at CASS. I would predict if you hold on tight and have a decent score to expect a TO in October. Most geographic preferences have maxed out their funding for this year. The new FY starts October.

            Dude,

you have to be a GS-11 to apply for K9... I'd say, does it really matter if you get a take home vehicle when you're still around 4 years away from the possibility?

Lets all keep our heads to the here and now...and possibly the very near future... Maybe worry about clearing the next step would be the best thing to do... Just my $.02...

Hello GMS...From what I know here @ SFO Cargo...

You do not take the vehicle home. The doggie stays in a (hopefully) local kennal where you retrieve and drop him/her off each day. The k-9 vehicle usually stays in a secure area @ where you work.

Not sure on the allowances, if anything, maybe a slight uniform increase.

The Area Port pays for all the Vet bills. Hope that helps.

Good luck in your quest for k-9 in 3-4+ years.

                      Bronze01,
I noticed that you work at SFO and had a few questions. I applied and was wondering if you knew their hiring status? How do you like the location and job? What are the shifts like? 5/8 4/10 rotating?
Does a person get to pick airport or port? Which do you prefer?
                      Thank you.

                      • Well I THINK I have a TO coming for CBPO. I was called by the medical unit today to say that my injury has been cleared by their staff and that I should get a call soon to do a fit test for a BPA gig. But she also told me that she noticed that I had an open application with CBPO and that I should be getting a call about that as well. When I told her that I haven't received a TO yet, she told me she didn't know anything about that but all she could say is that I'm showing up active and ready to go in the system for CBPO as well. So I dunno yet.

I tested in august for San Diego.
                        "Officer, you are kinda hot."

                        "And you are kinda intoxicated."

Personally, I'm a short-term guy. More importantly to you, CBP's past history is that of a short-term agency.

I'm of a nature to bet that any answer you get as to what to expect with regards to much about anything CBP related 4-5 years down the road will likely be found not to be valid once you get there.

Having said that, I believe that most if not all CBP/OFO dogs are kenneled. I also believe that there was at one point something in the works to compensate CBPO/CEO's for the extra bother of working with the dogs, but I'm not sure where that went.

I can count on the fingers of one hand the numbers of times I've "worked" with a CBP/OFO dog. I've had far more "experience" with BP canines. In any case, I'm far from an expert in the goings on with either group..

Have you checked [https://apps.cbp.gov/cass/ CASS yet?

                            • When I log into CASS I only see the info for my BPA app. I guess it would show both then? I don't really know. I guess I won't count on getting a TO until it's in my hand.

Also, I totally had a brain fart when I said I tested for San Diego. My GEO PREF is San Diego, but I tested out of SF last month.

No "perks" for being K9. Just the enjoyment one gets from working a K9!! Ever get the opportunity, take it! Lots of work, but it's worth it!!
