    Hello:

I am a July 08 Orlando, FL tester and noticed on Tuesday I showed up in CASS. Everyhting is pending. I have not heard anything else. I performed a search but could not find how long it takes to hear something. I am guessing this means I will get a TO. Could someone who has already completed this tell me.

    thanks

Yes, you'll be getting a t.o. packet in the mail soon, congrats! Now the real fun starts for you! What geo did you select? I mean did you choose Florida-all or Miami or Orlando?

Nah, 89 is a good score. You dont really think everyone out there gets a 100 do you? Piece of advice, get all your info together for filling out your security forms. Info like selective service number, ex-employers and schools, addresses, phone numbers, periods of unemployment, etc. It will really help make a long process shorter.

Strange- everyone I have known went to Georgia for Spanish training. Is it possible that they have Spanish training at both FLETC's?

Due to the influx of basic CBPOs I believe they are moving most of the advanced training and spanish training to SC.

No Pre acad is pretty easy. You'll do alot of computer training and busy work. As for when you start working the job, Madchicken is right about lunch. You get it when you can. And trust me there will be times when you wont eat until the end of your shift... or sometime during your hours of OT.

Anyone here from Vermont or tested for Vermont recently? The posting was unspecific and said Vermont - Many positions but I'm guessing Burlington is the primary post there... Never lived there but I hear it is nice.

I tested on August 23 2008 in Houston, received my results September 9th = Rating 98. So I'm hoping to get a T.O. pretty quickly...

                      • Most positions are not in Burlington.................ICE and DRO are in Burlington. There may be a few CBPOs there........The positions are on the actual border. Highgate Springs and Derby Line are the two biggests.

Really, I guess I was under the impression most of these posts would be in an airport... It makes sense though since Vt is on Canadian Border...

-I'm not sure where I was confused about this. What is the difference between CBPO and CBP Agent? I thought that the agents were at the land border entries and the officers were in airports. Can anyone relay to me what the difference is working at an airport and at a land-border?...other than the obvious.

I figure you would get to see more visa classifications and obviously more citizens from different nationalities - and thus it would be more challenging at the airport.

                          Thanks.

There really isn't anything titled "CBP Agent".

There are Border Patrol Agents within CBP. They usually patrol the border. CBPO's work the ports of entry at the airports, seaports and landborder.

Landborder: cars, trains, buses, commercial trucks. Lots more traffic. lots of outdoor work. Lots of local traffic crossing back and forth. Usually more OT, mostly double shifts.

Seaport: ships and boats. Can be cargo or passenger work. Usually more scheduled/ predictable than a landborder crossing. virtually no local traffic. Lots of outdoor work. usually less OT.

Airport: Highly predictable traffic. Mostly passenger orientated. Virtually no local traffic. May have good OT, usually in less than 8 hours shifts. Little outdoor work.

Edit: Your chances of getting into Burlington as a new hire are very slim. Burlington airport is rather small and almost always filled by CBPO's currently in VT. As was said you most likely are looking at ending up at Derby line, or Highgate.

My geographic preference is PA and I will most certainly be placed in Philadelphia. Do I have any better chance of making it back to Pittsburgh some day from Philly than if I was to change my preference to Maryland/Baltimore?

                              Question 1: More or less...yes.

                              Question 2: Maybe...leaning towards probably.

Transfers, if they happen, are much easier to arrange on a 'local' level.

First a quick lesson...CBP has 20 or so field offices which control ??? service ports which in turn operate 327 ports. In order for a transfer to fly, it pretty much needs to make happy the PD in the port you're leaving, the PD in the port you're going to, and the service port director for both ports. That's for a transfer within the same service port,
For transfers between two different service ports within the same OFO, all the above need to be happy, plus the second service port director...and the director of Field Operations for the OFO..
For transfers between two different OFO's, add in the DFO of the second FO.

In your case, both Pittsburgh and Philly fall under the Baltimore field office. I believe, but am not positive that Philly is the service port for Pitt. So...to answer your question, it SHOULD be easier to move to Pitt. from Philly.

Having said that...Pitt. looks to have roughly 20 officers. Compared that to Philly's 200+.
...It looks like a long shot to me.

I honestly don't know. I called the guy I have to report to on the 22nd and he said training was in Georgia, then spanish training was in S Carolina.
