    • Gerald Ford in MI
A few in NJ, one in FL, CO
one small airport in AZ too I believe...I want to say IL too but i may be wrong...there are quite a few

this is because a lot of smaller international airports have "lay over" flights in larger airports with CBP's. ALSO, you have a lot of smaller airports that may only go to canada, those too are considered international airports

          • "Why is it Gerald R. Ford International Airport?
The designation of International for an airport is not related to flight activity. Gerald R. Ford International Airport received this designation in 1977 when the U.S. Customs and Border Protection opened its offices at the airport."

            Gerald R. Ford International Airport

That's slightly inaccurate since US Customs and Border Protection didn't exist until 2003.

            • Can we get this thread back on track please. This place was a pretty low-key spot for discussing the hiring process prior to the last few pages........many times before people have been told to read the thread and many times before it's ended at that but then again you wouldn't really know that unless you have indeed read all 1200+ pages. I can say I've taken the time to read all 1200+ pages and I feel like I have an excellent grasp on the hiring process.........how about we end the personal battle and move on.

IDK...but they don't have CBP...thats all i know. for the amount of airports I go through monthly I see it all the time. And the reasons listed are for what I have been told..as listed above.

However it says services by Detroit, meaning if there are any suspected issues then CBP travel to that specific location from the detroit airport to give service...grand rapids has never had CBP's posted there.

                • ohhh but maybe the seaports have CBPs???...that would probably explain why the city is listed as a POE...but definitely not at the airport

                  • GRR International has CBP. They're based out of Grand Rapids and they cover those international flights that need coverage within GRR.

                        Detroit is the service port.

A basic breakdown is that a service port is a larger port that provides specialized services to smaller ports. (Entry Specialists, Import Specialists, etc.) and additional admin and managerial support. Detroit might send out specialized people as needed but the base port of Grand Rapids is in Grand Rapids.

I don't know much about the port, but the city probably wouldn't exist without the port. It's a long way from anywhere and to quote a friend of mine, "there ain't nothing out there but dirt." It's the hottest place in Texas. You can get G-housing as a CBP employee there. If your spouse is a teacher, she can get a job. Many of the CBP employees there live in Marfa, an hour up the road, or in Apline, and hour and a half away.

I can say that I have been to Alpine, TX ( long story) but you have to pass thur Marfa. Im in El Paso now and I can tell you that there is literally nothing out there but dust and mountains. When I got off of 1-10 I drove for 70 something miles before I got to marfa! and thats still 3 hours from El Paso which is the next largest city. So like a few others have said the SWB can be a culture shock! I moved here 3 years ago because of the Army and it took time to get use to the area and the people but I can honestly say that my wife and I love it here.
