    • Guys, just checked USAJobs and it looks like the deadline was Aug. 4.

Any ideas when the new hiring process will begin?

You either went to an extremely incompetent testing facility, or you are in serious trouble. For you to clear any of the 3 you have to go to 3 different specialists to have them examine you and give you the clear, all of this at your own cost. I can understand Hearing and Depth Perception, because I had my own problems where I tested. The Hearing test has to be done with you placed inside an "isolation" booth to accurately determine your hearing levels, where as in my case I could hear cars driving by on the road outside the office with the headphones on!....They sent me a letter stating that I had "Mild" hearing loss...lol Right!... Then I received a letter stating that I had not passed the "depth perception" test, so I went to an EYE doctor to have the actual test done, and came out with "Better" than average Depth Perception. As to the EKG reading, I think you might run into a dead end, that test is taken by a machine and it won't lie unless they placed the sensors in the wrong places...

            Good Luck

            • Forgive my naivety...

Other than seaport/airport and pretty much just stamping passport books, what other positions/locations/roles are available for CBPOs?

I think I would be frustrated to go through FLETC, learn police tactics and carry a weapon only to end up using a rubber stamp all day.

              • As far as I know...

                Seaport
                Airport
                and
                Land Border/Crossing/Port

However, there are many types of work and jobs at each individual area. As a rookie or non-GS11 you can expect to use quite a bit of ink with that stamp or get tennis elbow from waving vehicles through.

                GL with your process

                • Guess I'm just looking for what would be the most law enforcement type in CBP.

                        Cashew,
You have to understand, CBP is not "da police." While we are a law enforcement agency, we are a niche law enforcement agency. There is NOTHING about this job that is high speed, low drag. And yes, you probably will be stamping passports for a while. And while we do have special teams and plenty of opportunities, none of those involve kicking down doors and high speed pursuits with bad guys. Come to this realization now, and you won't be so disappointed later on.

What this job is though is a lot of frustration, some reward and a (in my opinion) ridiculously large paycheck every two weeks. I hope you find what your looking for.

                        • I was wondering if anyone could help answer my questions, How does is work with the CBP officer levels? I'm kinda new to the whole thing. I know you start off with a base salary, but how do you move up? How soon can you apply for a promotion? Do you have to be tested or interviewed, or just apply for a promotion? Is it automatic after a few years that you move up? How many levels are there to be promoted to? And what is considered top pay for a senior officer? Do the duties change significantly based on your level? or do all officers pretty much have to do the same thing?

                          • I was scheduled for my test on Tuesday. I had to miss it because I was sick. I e-mailed the testing center. I hope they can help me out. I would really hate to wait till the next job announcement.

                            • The search function is your friend, people. Most of the questions asked here have been asked and answered repeatedly on this thread and others over then last few years.

A lot of you are reading far to much into the 'critical needs' positions.

'Critical needs' is much more about the numbers of applicants than the actual numbers of CBPO's on the ground. It's a critical need from the hiring center's standpoint, not from the applicant's or port's vantage.
Taking a 'critical needs' position may get you a TO faster, but that's about it. All the rest of the processes drag along at their usual paces.

                              • Medical not clear

Thank you for your advise, Obviously I don't really worry about EKG report, base on my physician, my T wave was off from any mormal person but it doesn't mean my heart failure, I just have to take it to any cardiologist for the second opinion, when it come to hearing, I might have a problem due to incompetent testing facility as you said, any way, I appreciate for your feed back.
