That's what I'm wondering. I tested 12/10/10. I got the TO on 10/3/11. I did my med and fit on 12/2/11 and the only thing I have updated is that my pre-employment forms have been received.

      Currently...

GS pay and your home port locality pay. Pre-academy, academy, post-academy...it doesn't matter.

      However,

There is a push on to pay reform within CBP. Part of that pay reform plan is to define LEO pay as applicable to CBPOs. If that happens,(and it's a big 'IF') expect to be paid GL pay, where applicable.

        • We have 6C/12D CBPO enhanced retirement, which is identical(and in some cases...better) than 'LEO' retirement.

We do not have 'LEO' pay.

            • so CBPO does not fall under the Salary Table 2011 (LEO)?

Man, that's awful. That amounts to a base ~$10k pay difference, unless i'm reading it all wrong.

You got me concerned if I should be expecting a poly too but from what I gathered it was hit or miss on whether or not you were going to be administered the test but since you took yours back in 2010 aren't you excluded from it?

                • I've been trying to read up on CBPO salaries, and pay scales, and COPA, and AUO and 6c and 12c, and GS and GL....

I have no idea what i'm reading. I hope someone somewhere along the line will explain it to us.
I'm just curious as to what I can REALISTICALLY be making in San Diego.
I had several buddies at FLETC (instructors) all tell me that CBPO falls under the LEO Salary Table, plus AUO, plus locality, plus differentials...about 75k for a gs7, 65k for a gs5.

                  This is all mind-bottling

That's what I heard too, it's random. I've never taken a poly. I have a TS cleance now. I just got it a year ago for my current job but this agency doesn't give a poly. At first I thought that the clerance would transfer over but as I read the posts it looks like every agency likes to do their own BI so I guess there's still a chance for a poly. I just wish I knew if I was getting one so that I can know how much closer I am! Waiting sucks...

They get regular GS pay plus locality. Remember, all overtime is paid at double rate. Sundays are 1.5x, afternoons get 15% bonus and mids gets 20% bonus. If you work OT on a Sunday, you only get double (you won't get double plus 1.5x, you only get a max of double). SO your base pay is the GS plus locality. Then make all calculations from there (Sunday, Overtime, Shift premium). It is a lot of money for what a CBPO realistically does versus a beat cop. I don't care to work overtime and I'm already at $2300 since 01 OCT. Include shift premium and holiday, I'm at $5500 since 01 OCT! Not bad for 2.5 months of "extras"...
Thanks for the info. It makes a little more sense, although I feel...a little put upon. Why wouldn't CBPO qualify for the LEO salary table? Do BPAs?

It reminds me of my enlistment. I was given a flowery package, all wrapped up and handed to me by an high-nose English butler, but once I actually stepped foot in my unit...whole 'nother story.

                        • Did anything ever come of this?

                          November 4, 2010

                          MEMORANDUM

TO: CBP Chapter Presidents and CBP Legislative Coordinators

RE: FY 2011 CBP Budget and Compensation Reform Project

SUMMARY: Today CBP briefed NTEU on the status of the FY 2011 CBP budget and a proposal on CBP compensation reform.

NTEU received two briefings today from CBP. The first briefing provided an update on the FY 2011 budget for CBP. CBP announced that it has committed to fully fund CBP’s Foreign Language Awards Program (FLAP) in FY 2011. As you will recall, CBP initially proposed to eliminate the $19.1 million funding for FLAP in FY 2011. FY 2011 DHS appropriations legislation, that includes funding for CBP, is in the process of being finalized by Congress. The DHS Appropriations Conference report will likely be included in either a long-term Continuing Resolution or a FY 2011 Omnibus Appropriations bill that needs to be approved before the 110th Congress adjourns at the end of this year.

NTEU was also briefed on a proposed CBP Compensation Reform Project. The proposal would eliminate all frontline CBP positions, including CBPOs and CBP Agriculture Specialists (CBPAS) from coverage by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA); change the definition of LEOs to include CBPOs; put all LEOs including CBPOs on the OPM LEO salary tables; change the CBPO and CBPAS annuity formula from 50% of COPRA pay to 25% of base pay; and exclude GS-14 and GS-15 managers from COPRA and replace their overtime system with Law Enforcement Availability Pay.

NTEU has many unanswered questions about this CBP Compensation Reform proposal and expressed our displeasure at learning of the proposal at such a late date. CBP told us that they expect to submit the legislative proposals to implement this proposal to Congress with their FY 2012 budget submission at the end of this year. In the meantime, NTEU will be following up with CBP to make sure all our concerns are addressed. We will keep you updated as we receive additional information on this proposal.

If you have any questions, please contact Jean Hutter in the Legislation Department at 202.572.5500, ext. 7021.

                          • I think I'm going to stop pursuing this. This seems like a gigantic mess, and is causing a schism within Homeland and other agencies. this is a hot topic, and this forum is not the place for it.

I apologize for bringing it up.

                              • Random question here... Has anyone had a scheduled PFT/Med and not receive the fedex envelope before the test? I was scheduled on Tuesday, received an confirmation email yesterday, and the appointment is tomorrow at 10:00 am. I guess Fedex can still deliver a package from now until 5pm (?) but the CHS office is closed now.

Any suggestions on what to do?
