If I take my car to Cali, will the CBP pay for me to drive to Georgia or fly me back to Arkansas to get my car and then drive to GA? Sorry I have so many questions, just want to get my plans straightened before it gets late....
You get to be responsible for your expenses and lodging pre-academy. You also get to choose whether to drive your car to CA or arrange for other transportation. Your port will book you a ticket to Brunswick or Jacksonville, FL...depending on what's cheapest and scheduling. They might pay for a to Arkansas...if it doesn't cost any more than that original ticket. They might also let you drive, but they won't pay you anymore in driving costs than the cost of that original flight.

CASS still shows that I might be missing Pre employment forms and that they are awaiting my drug test results. I emailed them and they replied that I have no forms missing and that they would FWD my email to the Drug Test Department to see what they say. I know for sure I passed. I am waiting for the call for SYS, Tecate or Otay. I really hope I get one of those 3 locations. My buddy who started at the same time as me got the call last week for SYS I hope I'm next too!

I believe the BI is the only thing that you can not check on.... All MHC will tell you is that IA has it.

LOL!! yeah i had tried to call them a while back too...
The whole "6-9 months" thing is what they are required to say.... I have seen people pass in 2 mths and I have seen it go as long as over a year. It really all depends on what they find, how many places you have lived, how many people they have to contact....well it can be a hundred different things. I have gone through 3 investigations while working in the Federal contracting world and all i can say is dont leave ANYTHING out, keep copies, and be HONEST!!

As a CO with the BOP right now, I can tell you that CBP will make you more money down the line quicker. CO's currently top out as GL-7's in non-competitive advancement. You can apply for promotion to GL-8, apply again for GL-9 and maybe get an automatic advancement to GS-11, and then everything is apply and promote after that. CBP has non-competitive advancement to GS-12. In the BOP, the shortest I've ever seen someone make GS-12 is 7-10 years.

CBPO's also make more in OT with the way that COPRA works. 2x OT, 1.5x Sunday, and I believe 1.25x night differential. But it will depend on what port you are at. Some have an abundance of OT, some have none. With the BOP, its 1.5x OT and sometimes its there, sometimes its not. The BOP is a good place to get your foot in the door though and for some, they love the job. In the end, its all about putting a roof over your head, paying the bills, and getting your grub on. BOP will do that. CBP might do it better though.

                        • Night differential is either 15% or 20%, basically depending if it's evening or midnight differential.
