But I just received an actual attorney job offer that is a much better position, but it is M-F and there are no vacation days except as they are earned (about 1 day a month). No sick or personal days. Other than accrued PTO, any absences are unexcused and multiple instances result in write ups up to termination...I don't want to give up the attorney position, but I want CBPO the most...
Are you inferring by "attorney job" that you went through Law School, took the Bar, and now you just got a gig at a Firm? If that is true, why would you go for CBP?... Just curious.
    BTW
There will not be any testing of any kind in the weekends... you will be scheduled to do these steps with Government contractors, and that means weekdays. Took me 4 years to get hired. Keep your life going as if you never applied, complete the steps when they ask you to, and keep living your life...and eventually they'll call. Not saying it'll take you this long, but this process is a crap shoot... you might be waiting a year or you might be waiting for 4!

    • Yes I went to law school, passed the bar, took me 4 years to be offered a full time attorney job.

My undergrad was in criminal justice. I've always wanted to be leo, but had a chance to go to law school and I took it.

I know in my heart that I would be most happy as leo. I'm currenty in a sales/customer service position with a large company that doesn't pay great abs I'm not using my law degree at all, but there is flexibility for weekdays off.

      • Does anyone work at San Bernadino, California? It is one of the geo location under SWB. Any feedback or input would be appreciated. Thank you!

        • For anyone in the academy now how is the daily class PT is it enough that you don't workout after after classes on your own?

How hard is the academics? Do many people get the academic excellence or honor grad award?

Is the course of fire still 150 or did it go back to 300? Are people failing the firearms or do they give additional training until you pass?

With your background you should be trying for something like the FBI, and you have an option to practice law with CBP as well (not as an Officer though)... I've met a few down here in the academy, there was a group of them doing some sort of training.
Just some options you could think about...

There is an enormous push for the southwest border, I suspect it will be at least a year from test date for non SWB Nov. 2010 applicants to hear anything, if we ever hear anything at all. Prior to the Nov. 2010 announcement a co-worker applied in 2008 and scored very well on the written and in 2 years never received a tentative offer. A friend who works for CBP spoke with my state's union rep and was told that they are in zero hire mode despite losing officers to attrition, retirement, and losing probationary officers.

                    • Hi Everyone,
Input/comments of my chances to get my Background Completed/Cleared by mid-October 10/15/11 (b/c getting married).
Please note my background is fine, however, there is no forum for non-officer CBP positions but basically going through the same BI process.

Position is w/CBP as a paralegal specialist, submitted Public Trust SF85P-S with supplement questions. Went 7 years back, had 2 different investigators b/c they interviewed everyone, that is why think this forum might help b/c BI seemed to go through the same process. Here is my timeline below:

                      Offer: 5/9/11
                      Eqip submitted: 5/10/11
                      Drug Test: 5/26/11 ish
Meet with BI Investigator Interview: 7/6/11 (submitted their paperwork 7/8/11)
Another Investigator called me doing their portion of where I lived my past 7 years and finished 8/10/11).
As far as I know EVERYONE from my BI has been interviewed (neighbors, work, school, etc....)

Anyone out there who just finished their BI with input if you think I will be adjudicated by 10/15/11?

                      Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. I actually applied for the general attorney position at cbp as well

                          • Hey Jonnylaw,
I am an attorney as well. I don't think people realize the difficulty and small amount of attorney jobs available in the feds right now. I, myself, decided to start as paralegal in the feds and work my way up. Understand everything you are talking about.

It can take anywhere from 6 mos to a year to clear depending on the workload of the adjudicator, and some luck on your side...
This timeline is from when you meet the investigator on forward. Some of the SWB applicants recently picked up were cleared in "record" time (2 months if that), so who knows if you get the same push behind yours.

                              • Thanks Yoda, they also made me sign a preliminary clearance. So hoping they can just grant that soon and I can work while they finish up that junk. It is crazy how long it takes with CBP. I know they have a ton of workload but they must lose so many people b/c the BI takes forever.
