Each port can be different in what they require of their hires. If the port told him to wear a suit for the first day that is what he should wear. I can tell you as a supervisor I am not going to look favorably on a new employee that I told to report in a suit and the employee did not because of what he was told by another recruit on a internet forum.

I simply gave him the information the lady from MHC told me to report in, I did not have contact with anyone from my POE until 3 days prior to reporting.

                • With the Panama Canal project due to be completed next year, would one expect to have port stations increase staff? Charleston and Savannah possibly?

                  • Hello Everyone....I am new to the Forum also. The crazy thing is that I have been reading this forum for the last 3 years. It's been great reading your post. I treated you like a friend with benefits but it was time for me to commit and join...LOL

My letter for the VBT said the same thing, "...the VBT is considered the SI for this position." I did however do a SI after the VBT in Newark, NJ (same day) last week. I arrived at 8:00am..started the VBT at 8:20 and was done with the SI and out the door before 10:00am. The only step left to complete is the Drug Test which says "pending" Everything actually says pending. I emailed them about the Drug test and they said they will contact me later to schedule one. I hope it doesn't take long for the Pass/Fail result for the VBT & SI.

                        • At what point does ones score on the written test play a part because @ this point I know some folks I took the test with in Dec and have been moving at my pace as well steadily and some for the same locations? Also do they mix testers that they take for locations from two announcements or take up to the lowest scores from announcement one, before they start touching testers from announcement two?

Test scores come into play for who gets a TO first, who gets the job first depends on having all steps completed and TO date.

                              • Pre-Academy is mandatory. It is basically three weeks of paperwork before you get sent to FLETC. You will do VLCs (Virtual Learning Center Classes) on immigration and customs law, professionalism, and other basic topics that will help you be prepared for the academy. You will also get some clearances to operate CBP computer systems, email, etc.

If you are lucky, you will get to shadow officers as they work on the line. At land borders you will probably be restricted from observing primary because you don't have a gun or kevlar. In my pre-academy, I got to shadow a canine unit for a week. It was an awesome experience. I got paid to ride-along with a canine enforcement officer for 40 hours.

Also, if you aren't running and doing push-ups you should start now. The academy is not that militaristic but instructors still expect you to be physically fit.
